Advice with White Paint...

Hey everybody. I'm going to detail a white Ford Explorer soon for the spring, I've used Zaino in the past but now I'm going to be switching to Blackfire. I will be using a PC and MF towels. My question is, what should I use beforehand? There are some swirls and some light scoring from being run through an automatic carwash, nothing very major at all. I'm going to clay first, my question is, what is the best SMR to use, would you all reccomend some sort of polish or glaze between the SMR step and the Blackfire system? Also, the only pads I have for the PC are the original ones that came with it when I ordered it from Meguiars, there are two polishing pads and one finishing pads, all have been used, the polishing pads were used with Meguiars #9 and #7, and the Finishing pads with Meguiars Gold Class wax. I'm going to order new pads, probably from CMA (I've seen people here order them from these guys), which pads should I order?

I find that the Meguiars polishing pad when used with #9 very mild. I think you will need CMA (Lake country) cutting pad and some DACP as a back up. Klasse AIO would work very well as a surface prep for BF.

I've actually been doing some reading, and I'm thinking about using the Poorboy's EX instead of the Blackfire, if its available yet.



So you would reccomend Dawn wash, clay, DACP with CMA cutting pad, #9 with CMA cutting pad (If DACP is required), Klasse AIO (applied by hand or by PC, if by PC, which type of pad) then BF or the Poorboys applied by hand?
 
Autopian have a theory to use the least abrasive/aggressive product first. In other words try the #9 and polishing pad on a panel and if it works then great but if you need something more aggressive move to the cutting pad and if you still need more try the cutting pad with DACP.



IMO

Dawn wash: Lot of debate here but I like it.

clay: I like mothers clay/ others like clay magic

polish meg #9 and if necessary DACP

MGC shampoo wash.. good ph balance

Klasse AIO

Sealant of your choice

perhaps a topper( carnauba)

Meguiars polishing pad and AIO work well for me. Others like the finishing pad and AIO
 
I've tried both the clays Clay Magic and Mothers, I preferred Mothers myself.



Which sealant do you all reccomend for the white paint? I liked the Zaino a lot, but it didn't seem to have much depth or sheen, even though I know its hard to achieve with white in the first place. I'm torn between the BF, the Platinum and the Poorboy's EX.



As for toppers, the favorite here seems to be S100 or Souveran. I've never topped before, may give it a try. Whats the issue with removing the carmuaba topper to add more sealant, can't I just re-dawn wash to remove the carnuaba and leave the sealant behind?



I've had the white truck now for years, and recently got myself a new Lexus thats this real deep burgandy color, the white doesn't impress me as much anymore, trying to rejuvinate it a bit ;)
 
My order of Poorboy`s EX came yesterday and couldn`t wait to try it after everything that has been posted about it. It was applied to my 93 White Corvette following directions.



The top was done first, letting it dry to a light haze then wiped off. Nothing to really brag about. It didn`t really shine the way I thought it would. I then did the hood and this time I left it on for about 30 minutes then wiped it off. WOW what a difference. It looked GREAT. It was like night and day on a white car.



After that I did the rest of the Corvette and let it stand for anouther 30 to 40 minutes and wiped it off.

I am sold on this product. Will add anoher coat or two today.
 
I really can`t compare Poorboy`s EX to any other sealant as this is the only one I have used. After having read all the great reviews decided to give it a try. As for myself, I am sold on it for my white cars.



The Corvette now has a second coat of EX and has been topped with PPG. Looks great.



Have now also finished our white Buick Park Ave. the same way and it looks just as outstanding.

I'm definately going to try the Poorboys, I've read all the reviews and it just looks too good to pass up.
