Adhesive Residue On Ford F-250 Pick-Up Rear Windows

Is anyone familiar or has anyone seen adhesive residue on the rear windows of new Ford F-250 pick up trucks. I have a customer in Wisconsin who says he sees this residue on quite a few of his new trucks which come into his new car lot. Please advise.

Okay, that wasn't nice... well, you could always try a single-edge razor blade if it's like a glue residue or something. Ummm... any polish that does not contain oils that you would use on your paint would work, as would glass polishes. If nothing else, you could use your thumb.

Hmm... Well, what about adhesive removal products? I know 3M makes one, and I'm sure others do, too. That'd probably be the best thing to try first.

Well, I know of 3 things that work well on adhesive/sticky areas:

1. Peanut Butter

2. Goo Gone for Automobiles (they make one that is clear coat safe, I used it 2 years ago to take the tacky dealer badge off of the back of my black Passat and you can't tell it was ever on there).

3. Tarminator (although this stuff is pretty strong - strong smelling anyways! Phew. Works great though)

Lighter fluid or the top liquid of settled metal polish both work well.

Carb cleaner maybe.

Thats what i use to remove Window Tint adhesive residue.

Depends what kind of 'sticky'

If its on glass I would work ya way thru the garage shelves and kitchen cupboards till u find something that removes it.

Glass is pretty impervious to anything but Hydroflouric Acid.

heh... Just how strong is this stuff? In what is it stored?

(I'm in AP chem, but so far, all we've used are pretty stiff concentrations of HCl.)

I did a similar thing on my F150 rear window this past weekend. I removed the "made in" sticker from the window. Basically I took a razor blade and some Goo-Gone. Rubbed the Goo-Gone in with a terry towel. It removed all the adhesive and then cleaned with Stoner's IG.

Hope it helps..

Use Goof-Off. I don't know how it worked, but It totally took off all the colour to the dealer sticker. Then I was really upset, but to my suprise it literally just fell off after me sulking for 10 seconds. However check the ingredients!!! If you see "Xylene" in the product, you CANNOT breath that stuff, you have to use it in a well ventilated area!

Extremely strong. We used this to do downhole surveys in drilling rock core. We would use HF (10%) in a test tube downhole to etch the glass to determine dip angle. If you spilled this stuff on your skin, it quickly penetrates your skin, into your bones, and leaches out phospor compounds. In a few days, all your flesh and skin would be black, and you would be in excruciating pain from the damage to your nerves. Water won't wash it off. Need some stuff called Hydro gel or something like it to neutralize.

What contains it? Rubber and plastic. We used to use the heavy chemist grade rubber gloves to work with it. And goggles, as one splash, and you'll lose your eye. Full rubber apron too.

Sorry to hijack the thread. But this is the second time I have seen HF mentioned casually on Autopia. It's nasty stuff. Don't even think about experimenting with it.

When I worked at a Ford stealership for a while, one of the body guys showed me how to deal with stuff like that, although most of you already know it..... Lots of glass cleaner, and some 0000 steel wool. It's worked on all the glass I've cleaned so far to take off all the crap on it.

First post after lurking for months but I've got to jump in. Lighter Fluid or Naptha is probably the cheapest/easiest solution to the problem. It's an excellent tar/grease remover on any surface.

On a side note I doubt I'll ever be a true Autotopian,I lack the OCD gene.:(

lol... yeah, you're screwed. Or we're screwed. Better yet, maybe I'm screwed.

Screw it. Welcome! :xyxthumbs

A last resort would be acetone. I have used it when nothing else worked, but be extremely careful. It will absolutely destroy a painted finish, plastic or pretty much anything but glass or bare metal.

Here in the Chicago area we have to put city stickers on our windows every year and the adhesive they use is powerful to keep people from switching them from one car to another. The only way I can get them off is to use a hair dryer and razor blade to scrape the sticker off and then acetone to clean up the adhesive residue.

The other option is don't buy a Ford.:D

Ive dealt with HF acid on oil refineries.

They use it in making Unleaded Gas.

120 tons of the stuff.

They use a metal called Monel to contain it.

Its like a super-grade stainless steel and damn expensive.

Wheels is correct in what it does when it hits the skin, it goes straight for the bone marrow.

Your supposed to rub Calcium Glutamate gel (Hydra Gel is the brand name I think) into the skin to encourage the HF to go for that rather than your bones.

If its bad they have to chop off the affected bit to stop it travelling up the bone.

SO, kids, DONT try this at home.

Super nasty stuff.

But then we used to make Phosgene gas too .......

Wow, sounds like some amazingly caustic stuff.

Mustard gas... and how, may I ask, did you do that?
