Adhesive Removal From Windshield?

I was removing two dealer stickers from the inside window. One came off easily, and the second one was horrible. It left all this adhesive residue that I've no idea how to clean off. :(

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

I've used stuff from Wally world called Krud Cutter on our boat before. It didn't damage anything and turned the leftover glue into smush.

The small can of 3m adhesive and wax remover from Walmart is great! I recently had my older car inspected for state emissions test and I brought this along with me to use after the inspector removed the old sticker on the windshield. It works like a charm to remove all of the residue quickly :up :up

Thanks for the fast replies guys. I seem to have the problem under control for now.

Since it's inside the windshield, it was a PITA, as most of you should know. I started with Goof Off, which quickly got rid of the residues, but caused a lot of hazing and streaking. I then used some Eagle One 20/20, which helped it a bit. Then I finished off by wiping the windshield with a damp MF for twenty minutes. It looks fine now, but I'll have to wait until tomorrow when the sun comes out to be sure.

Thanks again guys. :)

Wow, that's a lot of work. In anticipation of future trouble with any kind of window decals, I just purchased a special razor-blade window scraper similar to one used by the inspection center. Now, in combination with the Wax and Adhesive Remover, I should never have trouble getting any decal off. :)

Will post a pic for you as soon as my camera batteries charge up. I can tell you this about it:

brand name: Performance Tool

name of tool: Extended Scraper

12" long

Part #: W233

(no website given)

Got the tool at a local Pep Boys ( was about $10)

I just removed a customer's tint with a steamer... not too hard and it gets MOST of the glue off with the tint. I used "super fine" (#0000) steel wool with some window cleaner and that worked like a charm at the glue residue left on the glass. Of course you wouldn't be able to use steel wool on the interior glass if you have tint there so be careful.

The label on the package even states that it can be used to clean glass with or without a cleaning solution. Steel wool is now defenitely on my detailing shelf in the garage.

Good luck.

I use a steamer all the time to remove decals from plates. Works excellent! :up Here's that scraper:

If it's rubber-cement based, GoofOff will smear it around more than remove it, as reported above. Using the least aggressive method first, I'd say to try 91 percent or higher alcohol. Saturate the adhesive and let it work for a few minutes (a saturated rag pressed up against it works well). You can feel when it's dissolved by rubbing it with your finger, then just wipe it off. I learned about this when I used to do vinyl graphics where alcohol was the solvent of choice. I just used this method last week to replace the annual stickers on 5 cars.

That 3m wax and adhesive remover states safe for glass too :up I'll always reach for the alcohol first but when it doesn't work I have goo gone, tarminator, 3m general adhesive cleaner and the wax and adhesive remover , it is my favorite for sure

( now I'm seeing I had to start a collection of adhesive removers :D. LOL)
