Acummulator- opinion BHB ?

3Dog- As best I can tell that's the Braun (sp?) one that Griot's sells. I had a total of five of them and sent back all but one. And I hardly ever use that. Cood idea, lousy execution for the most part. Not *nearly* as user-friendly as I'd expected.



IF (and that's a big "if" in my experience) you get one with nice soft bristles, and *IF* you handle doesn't start leaking something awful (trust me, it will and you'll never fix it), then *IF* (hugest "if" of all!) you find it user-friendly, then maybe it'd be almost as good as spraying the foamgun through the bristles of a hand held one. Gee, can you tell how I feel about the flow-through BHB ;)



The one in the AutoGeek link did have light-colored bristles (different from the ones I've used) but I've found that the color of the bristles isn't always significant with regard to their coarseness anyhow.



I even tried feeding shampoo mix through it using a siphon-feed. Didn't work very well for me but you could always try that. If you do, please post about it. I'd love to hear that they've improved the things (goodness knows they needed it when I had 'em).

You're highly unlikely to see a boars hair brush at your local car wash stall.



This is a VERY different brush than what you're referring to.

This is just educated guessing (mine won't be the worst guess ;) ) based on the picture in the link. As best I can tell that BHB by Braun with the threaded hole for the handle will work as a flow-through with the right (hollow) handle. The big hole for the handle leads to a smaller hole that goes all the way through. Other than the color, that brush looks *exactly* like mine and I can't imagine them making two separate molds for the handle (one with the second little hole and one without), wouldn't make economic sense. But as I said, I'm just guessing and thinking out loud...Oh, and note that a single, centrally-located hole for the water/soap/etc. to come out of isn't nearly as good as moving a foamgun up and down the entire lenght of the brush anyhow.



Runnerbl- besides the bristles being made of boar's hair (and there's a wide range of grades of boar's hair), the technique makes a big difference too. People who just scrub away with *anything* are gonna scratch up their paint. But starting with very soft bristles gives you a good head start ;)
 
A BHB is the best car wash applicator in my opinion. A flow-thru brush, boar's hair or otherwise, seems like a great idea but it really is only worth while if applied to a big SUV or other large vehicle where you need the reach provided by the long flow thru handle. Otherwise, the garden hose connected to the long handle is a weak link to this approach because it is heavy, filled with water and inflexible. Better to get a non-flow thru BHB, like the Braun http://www.brush.com/cgi-bin/Brush.storefront/4429dd8202bff8f6273fd8968d64072e/Product/View/A12A0702 and spray the foam from a foam gun into the brush. In my experience, nothing retains soap/foam better than boar's hair. If you are determined to go flow-thru, try a short flow-thru handle, like the Dramm Handi-Grip Handle http://www.dramm.com/html/main.isx?sub=10. The best flow-thru wash applicator gadget I ever used is The Glove http://www.calcarcover.com/product.aspx?id=1003&cid=99. This an excellent product that works very well.

Not to :argue (hey, I use all sorts of methods with the foamgun myself ;) and there isn't *one and only one* method that works) but it's not the BHB that does the marring. At least not the ones I'm currently using that passed the CD test. But there were a few that got sent back to Griot's because they *did* mar- I learned the hard way that you gotta test 'em before use.



As I posted in one of the other BHB/foamgun threads, like SamJake, I'm gradually returning to the BHB after having experimented with mitts for the last year or two. By "jiggling" the BHB instead of making longer passes (and I never moved it more than ~6" anyhow), the foamgun seems able to safely flush the [marring-causing-stuff] away. Better flushing than I get with a mitt.



Who knows, I might even retire the mitt-balloon method, but I'm gonna be careful about that- the S8 is still marring free after two years and I don't have time to polish it out these days if another method mars it.
