Acrylic Jett: Trigger / Prime Strong Review

Very nice work!



It has been 9 weeks since I did prime and 1x coat of AJ on the wifes car. Its still beading very well. I want to add some trigger x2, but trying to hold out to see how long it will last with just 1 coat of AJ.



Every 2nd or 3rd wash I use Z8 or yesterday I used Menzerna HGAS. It really looked great after the HGAS.
 
I will be suprised if you don't get compliment with that look on your car. Simply amazing, the paint work looks so perfect to me, excellent work :bigups

Bioman: The strato blue does have some metallic flake. I should stress that I *do* like AJT/PS on my dark blue Mazda... but just not as much as a well done Souveran treatment. I do think acrylics in general lack some depth when it comes to dark cars but it's really a personal thing. Like I said, I've gotten a lot of compliments with this combo because a lot of people *do* like reflective and shiny over deep and wet.





Gen2: Thanks! I really didn't have to do much correction. Light swirl removal and minor scratches. Nothing that SSR2.5 and a bit of ScratchX couldn't fix.

Maybe going the carnauba route with the Werkstatt system would be more satisfactory for you? I think the car looks excellent as it is, but since you like carnauba (as I do)...



And of course, you can follow up AJ with CJ, so perhaps you can get the best of both worlds.
 
I used Prime Strong with Carnauba Jett and it worked really well. I applied Prime Strong with PC and it was buffed out real easily. CJ was applied with one of my MF towels and buffed off with another.
 
Nice review. The prime/ajt looks great on both cars. The mazda does look great. Like you said though, think a carnauba over it would look better w/ the darker colors for that added depth. Looks like it's almost a bit lacking w/ out it.

Hmm...I haven't tried AJ:T on my car yet, but I was planning to soon. I live the versatile look of acrylic sealants like FMJ. With it, the metallic flake on my paint really shines and stands out, but when I am using a carnauba I can only see blue. The flake is hidden, but I do agree that a carnauba has more depth.
 
I think i'll be picking up Jeff's carnauba products and re-doing the Mazda to see if that's more to my liking.



The best way I can describe the lack of depth but super reflectiveness of acrylis is 'plastic wrap'. A good look for lighter cars and metallics but not quite right for darks.



Bioman is right though that carnaubas really tend to mute metallic flakes. The Strato Blue Mazda paint does have some metallic flakes but not enough, IMHO, to warrant the acrylic look.



A good example of a darker paint with a ton of metallic flakes that would probably look good with an acrylic sealant is Acura's Carbon Gray used on the TSX.
