According to CMA, FP has fillers.

Swirls can be visually hid by polishing the surface with a non-abrasive polish such as Menzerna Final Polish, Meguiar's No. 9 Swirl Remover or 3M Perfect-It Swirl Remover. This rounds off the top edge of the swirl, robbing sunlight of a sharp edge to cause a reflection. When you buff off the polishing residues, fillers will stay in the depressions. Finish by applying your favorite wax or paint sealant. This will hold the fillers in place, cosmetically hiding swirls and minor paint blemishes. This procedure does not remove the swirl. Swirls may be visible in certain light conditions (fluorescent lamps are ruthlessly revealing) and will reappear as the wax ages. That said, most people will look at your car and think it's flawless.

I always thought FP didn't have fillers.

I believe them to be polishing oils in the case of FPII and not necessarily "fillers". The old fp didn't use oils, but FPII added oils to make it more user friendly. The oils make the products not dry out as quick, and helps making the products "dust" less, and can probably "fill" a little but not nearly as much as a glaze. The key is that the surface is left with no noticable fillers after you polish IMO. That link para was geared more to megs glaze and 3m. I assume your talking about this para:

I'm curious about fillers...what is the difference between oils and fillers? What exactly are fillers made of chemical wise?

Seems to me that any abrasive would have to have some solvents to allow the polishing action to be smooth. I think one of the newest things has been improvements in how abrasives breakdown...so called diminishing abrasives...

My guess is that all polishes have some mix of abrasives and oils and perhaps fillers.

Oils can either lubricate and allow you to work the polish longer and/or they are like the Meg's trade secrect oils that impart a wet shiny look. My understanding is that clay is used as a "filler", but there are probably others too. Clay is pretty cheap and chemically inert and would work its way into depressions to fill. But, I'm not sure how long the filling effect would last even if you seal over it.

That info is not accurate. FP and 3M Perfect It SMR are abrasive. 3M SMR does contain fillers FP does not.

I agree......whoever wrote that is on crack to say FP is not abrasive.

my impression from reading posts here is that most people consider oils to be fillers and thats not totally accurate IMO as almost all products contain some oil

We need a chemist to chime in here....there are probably different chemicals/polymers with different properties.

As well, I'm not sure we have established that fillers are always bad.

IMHO, fillers are bad only if:

1. they're not doing their job well

2. you weren't expecting them to be present in a product

:D

I thought all IP or was it FP dont have any sort of filer. Hell, I thought all Merzena product doesnt any oil. :nixweiss

I see alot these post lately(pb vs cg)

CMA is talking out of both sides of it's head on this. Go to CMA and click on the link that lists all the brands they sell. Then click on Menzerna. It lists all the Menzerna products they sell and the kits that include Menzerna products. In the Menzerna-Klasse kit they specifically recommend IP and FP because "they contain no waxes, fillers, or silicones". They go on to say that Menzerna polishes work by burnishing the finish with abrasives. No waxes, fillers, or silicones is one of Menzerna's big selling points. Then CMA contradicts itself with the quote in the first post of this thread. And suggests that now FP does have fillers and is non abrasive.

I can assure you that Menzerna FP, FP II (Really Micro Polish), IP, and my recently acquired Power Gloss (thanks Ranney) are in fact all abrasive and filler free and wax free.
