Accord Detail

Did a detail of my son's Honda Accord yesterday. It has 106K on it and although it has a lot of deep scratches and dings on it, the end result made me (and him) pretty happy. The Dark Green metalflake color -- which has difficult to detremine before the work - looked really great after.



Used the following routine:

- Meg's Gold Class Car wash

- Zaino Clay Bar with Z-7/Water lubricant mix

- Meg's DAPC with PC on 4.5

- Meg's #9 (Swirl Remover #2) with PC on 5.0

- Meg's NXT applied by hand, removed with MF bonnet and then with MF towel by hand



In addition, the following were used:

- Eagle One A2Z

- Meg's Endurance (High Gloss)

- Black Again

- Lexol Vinylex

- Stoner's Invisable Glass

- Woolite/Water 6:1 Mix

- Meg's #39 (Heavy Duty Vinyl Cleaner)

- Meg's Natural Shine Vinyl & Rubber Protectant.

:xyxthumbs :xyxthumbs Looks good, but as a suggestion, Spread the dacp on 4, and push it up to 5.5 6, it will really dig in and cut the swirls better!



But anyhow, it really looks great regardless of the lighting shift.



Where is hilton in regards to Rochester? Anywhere close??

Thanks! I'll try the slower starting speed with DACP. With so many scratches, etc on this car, I was really thinking I might even like to use something a bit stonger but don't have anything on the shelf yet. Any suggestions -- other than buying a rotary?

The Village of Hilton is in the Town of Parma. Parma is the next town west of Greece -- which is the most north and west direct suburb of Rochester. -- To put it another way, I'm about 18-20 miles west northwest of Midtown Plaza.
 
Cool, so you are close ny, I own a Detailing Outfit here in rochester, so if you ever need any tools or products, give me a shout and i can help you with anything you need. As far as a stronger polish, i just used ssr3 on my fiances car today, and there is also ssr2.5 which i havent gotten around to testing yet, but both are stronger than dacp. If you want to try them out, i can give you some, or if you want your own, we have a great resource for clearkote, and poorboys right here in fairport. His name is Scott, and he is on here as Scott P, he owns Specialty Motoring Products (www.Specialtymotoring.com) He is a great guy, i would recomend talking to him too if you have any problems polishing or what not.



I am out in webster, on the exact opposite side of the city from you.

I'm just doing some details as a hobbyas I enoy the work and the immediate feedback I get from a job well done. This site is great for learning and sharing with others!

I agree with mike on the speed on 6. You can work it at 5, but it'll take forever to break down. :)

But, why would you use #9 AFTER DACP? Isn't DACP stronger than #9, therefore the #9 on top of the DACP (or even before for that matter) defeats the purpost of the DACP? Someone please explain.



For a little stronger than DACP, I had to use Meguiars Diamond Cut and a wool pad to get my old single stage Red MR2 red again (look for a post by me about 3 weeks ago for the pics-I'm feeling too lazy right now to search for you)

#83 and #9 are polishes. As straight polishes, they leave nothing (or at least very little) behind -- other than better prepared paint. #83 is coarser than #9 so it's a little faster and better at removing scratches and swirls. BUT, it sometimes leaves a bit of haziness (due to it's relative coarseness). #9, being a finer polish, is used after DACP to remove any haziness and leave a more highly ploished surface.

Great transformation! The paint looks very clear. :xyxthumbs



I've seen quite a few Accords in that color with heavy oxidation, it's nice to see one looking like new for a change!
