Not a fun end to the day. Mother was stopped for construction and the lady behind her didn`t stop...

She is ok, more shooken up than anything. It was driveable, but I decided to have it towed. Unfortunately the contracted company wouldn`t tow it directly to my bodyshop, but to their lot till they get payment from somebodies insurance. So tomorrow we have to file against their insurance and try and get a rental. The other person admitted fault to the MD state trooper, but we`ll see how it goes once we get to insurance. Don`t think it`s going to be a total loss, but expensive. I assume the whole trunk floor is going to have to be replaced.

Thanks guys! Not looking forward to dealing with insurance, and since it is in my name I gotta go and get the ball rolling. I`m not fretting over it all, just need a rental and the car fixed or replaced. Once it gets released from the tow yard it`s going to one of the best shops in the area so I`m not worried a whole lot.

Glad she is okay!

If she has any pain at all take her to a doctor so it`s getting documented. If there would be any problems for her in the future. The cost would likely be on the driver that hit her insurance. Just a precautions that is good to have.

Glad your mom is alright- I definitely echo what SWETM said about the doc.

I thought a rear-end was an automatic at-fault for the person doing the rear-ending; i know it is in Texas at least. Sorry you have to go through the ordeal of insurance companies. Take lots of photos

Glad your mother is AOK. Sometimes pain from an accident won’t show up for a week or so, but hopefully she won’t have any. Think the other driver was texting or doing something on the phone. Accidents are a big inconvenience

Mi Hermano Nizmo !
Sorry to hear about su Mama` - I hope that she will not have any later whiplash type injuries, etc... If so, do NOT sign any releases from the other Insurance Company until you both know all is ok..

I am so glad the gas tank did not rupture or anything... Yikes !!!
Hope the other driver was not injured - bet their airbag went off.. Hope it was not a bad Takata airbag..

It IS a hassle working with Insurance companies sometimes, hope your experience goes quickly and most importantly, your Mom is going to be ok when its all said and done..
Prayers for you guys tonight..

Thanks for the kind words folks! It`s going to be hard to tell if there`s any new injuries as she has several ailments right now, but we`ll be on the watch. The other driver has Progressive, so being around the bodyshop almost all my life, I know it`s going to be a fight to get all OEM parts. That`s pretty much all I`m going to allow. Unfortunately I`m probably going to have to go through my insurance and having them fight the other party to get everything going quicker, and get a rental. Mother`s hip is not gonna bode well with the clutch in the GTI or S10 right now, and the Jeep is going to be hard to get in an out right now. I honestly wish it could be a total, as much as I like the car, don`t feel like dealing with the repair.

Speaking of GTI, and a little humor right now, I still find it funny when she rides with me to have the handicap placard on the mirror at stores. Looks kinda funny on a "sports" car.:D

I understand about the handicap placard on the sports car. Most people don`t pay attention. I`ve had all kinds of reactions from though. One guy even confronted me right after I got out of the BMW last year in Kansas. He basically said if I can drive, and get in and out of a sports car. I didn`t need a handicap permit. I just smiled at him and walked into the store. I`ve gotten looks, and people walk around the car to see if I had a permit. Funny thing is you instantly know as soon as you see me walk.

Nizmo- I`m late to this...glad your Mom is OK, sorry the insurance co.s are being such a PIA- I`m shocked that there`d be any *question* of oem parts for the injured party`s car! I generally have my Ins. [INSERT praise for Chubb] deal with theirs and that`s always worked fine. Hope the whole thing gets resolved satisfactorily.

Distracted by something, huh? I mean, why else does anybody run into anything under those circumstances? Well, plenty of folks don`t know how to use abs....

So the other parties insurance policy seems to be cancelled or lapsed, so this is going to get interesting real fast. Hah to file with my insurance to get the ball rolling and a rental. Another hitch was the towing company that towed the car. They would not bring it to my bodyshop last night and the only way they were going to get it released was my insurance short of threatening. We gave the towing company permission to release it. Bodyshop is going to have their towing company send a truck. But wait, there`s more! Just got a call a minute or two ago asking for the release of the vehicle again. I think I`m going to have to repo my own car!

Nizmo- Gee, you`re really getting put through the wringer!

Does your mom have Uninsured Motorist Coverage? Ours took care of that no-problem, whatever costs/hassles there were didn`t end up being our problem.

I do, yes, it`s part of the full coverage. Still afraid my premiums will be going up.

It also appears the damaged spare tire-well is part of the uni-body, which could result in a total. If indeed it is, I`m not looking forward to the replacement process.
