I've got about 20 small chips on the front on hood of my car. I've been reading the threads on chip repair and I have a question...
Why is the first step to sand the chip down to the level of paint? If you sand the chip down level then where will the touch up paint go to 'fill' the chip?
Also, this is how I intend to attack. Does this process look ok?
. wash car
. use toothpick to pick out loose parts
. use IPA solution to clean the chip
. mask around chip area
. wet sand chip with 2.5k - 3k sandpaper
. apply touch up paint with toothpick (utilizing capillary action)
. let dry a couple of hours and apply another coat
. wet sand with 2.5-3k sandpaper.
. let dry a couple of hours and apply clear coat(s)
. wet sand again or (langka and/or both?)
. scratchX?
. hand polish
Btw, I have a red bmw.
Thanks in advance.
