a very dirty bug, and not too bad wrangler

ok, so i just did a red vw bug and a silver jeep.





first the vw.

my shop put vinyl graphics alllll over it a few years back, and now the owner is selling it. so i had to remove all the old graphics and detail it.

it shouldn't of been that hard of a job but those graphics did NOT want to come off.

so it was time to whip out the wheel

even with the wheel it took about 2 1/2 hours to get all the graphic and adhesive off.

but i figure it saved me more about 8 hours and ten bloody fingers...

so heres what i had when all the graphics were off

so the detail went as follows:



stripped all the vinyl with wurth tool and wheel

clean the wheels and tires

wash with NXT soap

clay

polish with ssr2.5 on megs burgandy pad via PC (left a LOT of haze)

AIO with white pad via PC (removed all the haze)

and topped off with P21S by hand to really make it pop.



for starters the paint was in pretty bad shape, some failing clear in places, and lots of paint chips on the bumper and hood.

but all in all it came out pretty good.

and now the jeep.



it was already in pretty good shape, but the biggest problems were the plastic fender flares and the plastic windows.

so i washed with NXT

clayed

polished with ssr2.5 on megs burgandy pad via pc

topped with NXT liquid by hand, removed by pc (my favorite wax on silver)

AIO on a white pad via pc on all the fender flares

then topped the fender flares with megs spray on trim detailer

as for the plastic windows i used megs #17 on an orange pad via pc.



i was very happy with the way the plastic fender flares came out. the AIO made them look alright but the megs really made them pop.

also the plastic windows came out fantastic, unfortunately none of the pictures of them came out good...

My thoughts as well.



Both turned out really nice, even though the Jeep might have been in good condition, they are not as easy to detail as you'd expect for their small size.
 
im guessing from the looks of it that the wheel that was used was a rubber wheel. Those are commonly used for removing decals, but they were originally made for removing pinstripes. I used one of those when i had to remove decals on a 30ft race car trailer.

the wheel is just made of rubber, its pretty much like a big eraser, the tool itself is air powered and literally tears away the vinyl and adhesive.

its not suppose to hurt the paint, and i've had very good experiences with it. although you do have to be careful. like any other tool, improperly used it can cause damage.

i always test the wheel on a hiden spot to make sure it doesn't hurt the paint. on the beetle i only used the wheel on the metal panels because it took the paint off of the plastic bumpers.

as for AIO removing the haze. i at least think it was haze? after ssr2.5 the paint looked kinda cloudy and not real crisp, but after the AIO the red really poped and looked sharp.

so i hope that clears things up.

Excellent work on both, I too was surprised that AIO was able to remove haze. I'd think you'd have to use something like OP or SSR1 to take it out. I'm guessing you're in Ontario by the license plates. I'd suggest blanking them out in the future as most customers don't want them shown on the net. Also surprised that the CC was failing on the Beetle, it's not that old is it? :2thumbs:

actually i'm located in Connecticut, but i guess i should blur out the plates in the future haha.

also the beetle is a 98 or 99, there wasn't much clear failure, just on the upper corner of the hood, but it was there.
