a tire dressing question from a newbie...

Hello all.



I searched the archives of what most people use for tire dressing. It looks like 303 is the choice. Is this still the case?



The tires on the 993 are looking a little brown. I dont like shiny, greasy tires, so I haven't been using any dressing on them until I can find a dressing thats worth while and not dry out the rubber.



I do keep them scrubbed clean both inside and out. Just want a natural satin finish. Like a new tire would look like.



Any suggestions? Bear with me, I am new to this wonderful forum, but where can I buy some of these great products? I see 'CMA' mentioned, what is CMA?



I dont like what I see at the local Pep Boys.

Meguiars #40 Rubber and Vinyl Cleaner and Conditioner is pretty good. More of a satiny sheen and I've never had a browning problem.



Believe it or not, Armor All is pretty good. My customer with the Lamborghini and Bentley won't let me use anything else. A little more shine than Meguiars #40, but not that greasy look you get from some others. Apparently, they changed the formula a while back because it works a lot better than I remember from years ago. No browning either.

PS rcwaldo, I use zaino tire gloss, I love it. It costs a little but I still think that it is my fav....:xyxthumbs

I don't think there is a right answer here. People like there tires to look differently... siny, satin or matte. Different products produce different results. 303 is between matte and satin. Meg #42 is matte and a pretty good cleaner. Zaino is satin. Lexol Vinylex is between satin and shiny. EF Gel is between satin and shiny.



As far as tire cleaners go, many people here will tell you the best thing going seems to be Eagle One tire cleaner. It cleans well without being too harsh. I like it, and the price is right.



On my 993 S I use EF Gel, allow it to soak in for 5-10 minutes, then buff the tires dry. This leaves a slightly satin finish that lasts through a couple washings.

I've tried Super Shine's Tire dressing and it works very well. Spray on and leave alone. No browning on my tires and lasted a good two weeks. It doesn't really give a high-gloss look. Even if it is too glossy for you, then wiping it down will reduce the look.



Pro's S-97 Wipe-On Gloss is also a pretty low gloss dressing. Simpy wipe it on the tire, let sit awhile, and then come back and wipe down again with a towel. It is water-based and will not brown tires. It won't last through a heavy rain though and if you drive you car too soon after you apply it, then water spinning out from rim can streak it.
 
one that I still like, though it seems others have shyed away from it is Meguiar's Endurance Tire Gel (just dont get the high gloss stuff by mistake, it sucks major hiney..) I apply it, let it set in for about 15 minutes, and wipe off the excess with a rag.. any areas I miss (like up close by the wheel or out by the treads between them and the wall) I use armorall and a q-tip to fill in.
 
I have had too many problems with Armor All over the years to trust it again. I remember expensive cracked dashes, browning tires and the weirdest use of the product--cracked Fly Lines! Yup!

We used to own a Sporting Goods store where our local Fly Club told members to use Armor All on their Fly Lines to facilitate longer casts! All their lines cracked!! We sold probably 100-200 fly lines!



Believe it or not, I actually like No Touch tire dressing. I have not had one problem with their products. No stained paint, or extra sling!:up
