A slightly different type of winter prep detail..

Well guys winter is approaching and it's time to put away the toys for a few months. Since there are only 4 or 5 of these skis in the country (its only sold in Japan, will not be available in the US), and I paid stupid amounts to sneak it thru customs in a crate, airfreight from Japan, etc, I figured I might as well take good care of it ;) It's kind of a weird cross between a sit-down and a stand-up..the 2006 x2. They made them in the late 80's early 90's here but stopped. Ify ou look closely at the back, you can see all the warning stickers etc all written in Japanese....along with the owner's manual..hehe

Along with mechanical winterization, the ski got this treatment... I am loving the look of 5050 on even the ski!!!! :) The gloss down the black lower side of the hull was hard to capture in the garage with the cam.

Exterior

- wash w griot's soap, dry with mf

- qd'd with sonus acrylic spritz (all i have for qd at the moment)

- 'seat', plastic bumpers, corners, steering column, grips, throttle, start/stop switch with 303

- Chemical Guys 5050 by hand on all top deck and hull sides (wax on bottom= bad)

Engine

- rinse out hull, wipe down, let it air dry for a day (i didn't need degreaser, I keep the engine pretty clean as you'll see)

- spray all metal engine parts with boeshield t-9 protectant/water displacer/lubricant(amazing stuff! boeshield.com)

- hit all rubber/plastic with 303

Here are the skis before I started. Haven't done the superjet (stand-up) yet.

Brandon, its got the same bottom hull and 800cc 2stroke as the sxr800 standup. They can't sell it here because of emissions etc. If you've ever ridden sxr you know how hard they carve, this thing is a carving machine...you can be doing 30-35 mph into a turn, crank the bars, and lean it over so far you are dragging your elbow/the grips in the water and it still hooks up :) It's not really a top speed machine, more carving and acceleration. Low fifties on the radar gun. It's only 350lbs ! They tow well with my 'bitchin' truck as you called it ;)

Oh..as you can see from the pics, it's bone stock right now...can't remember what 800's put out, if it's 85 or 90 hp. The superjet has a limited spec race engine(around 125hp only 251lbs), and leaves it in the dust on the bottom, but not much on the top. After one more season of getting used to it and letting friends play with it, I'll probably throw a head/pipe/carbs/prop on it... Have you been riding a while? Remember the old x2's and waveblasters and hx's? That whole sport class is missing from the manufacturer's offerings these days :(

I find the cleanup is a ton easier with a nice coat of wax on them..the 'scum' from the river where I sometimes ride rinses off really easily. The 303 really woke up the plastics too, this is the first time I've used it. I like that it has UV protection for the seat, being black and in the sun all the time.
