A question regarding using 425...

So apparently I'm the only one, but I have kind of a hard time getting 425 to cooperate with me. I am a QD junky, I have used them all, so I don't think it's my method, but maybe there is a secret that I am not aware of.

I am using it over carnaubas mostly (Pink Wax on my black Harley-Davidson and Pinnacle Signature Series II on my GTO). It just seems like it dries SO quick. I am lightly misting each panel, buffing initially with the plusher side of my favorite MF (Cobra Super Plush) and then turning to a dry side for the final buff. I almost always either get some streaking or the light film/haze left over that can be seen under my bright garage lighting.

I tried it today in the direct sunlight, 85* outside, and it dried faster than I could blink.

From what I can tell, I really like the finish it leaves, but I hate having to go back over and re-QD certain areas where there is streaking or "hazing." Has anyone else encountered this?

I almost never need to flip with #425.

Spray on, wipe in, walk away.

Try using a little more product...

sean,

do you use 425 while the car is still wet? or do you use it when the car is completely dry? does it make a difference?

Why didn't I think of that? I'm so used to just having to use so little that it's second nature now. I'll see if that helps.

You mentioned misting. Not sure what you are using but just in case....Use a 2oz misting bottle. It will give you a more usable and lighter pattern for what you are doing.

The post is referring to bikes and would take way too long on autos.

Yeah, I use the little 4 oz. bottle that once had Adam's Detail Spray in it for this. It works great! Small enough to take along on rides with a small MF as well for accidents.

I noticed this too when I used a slightly plusher MF towel. I went back to my usual short nap Sonus Der Wunder polishing towel and had no hazing problems.

The 425 is very thick looks like cough syrup on your car so you need to use a bit more product. If you spray it onto the towel you'll use allot more than you need.

My '425 technique' is to spray it on the car in a stream long enough to cover the whole panel and then I let it run down the car, sorta let's me know how much is enough. when I've gotten around the whole car I start spreading it up and down. I then use my Meguiar's Buffing towel which really make a thorough pass because its so plush.

Lately I've been using FX100 over 425. Seems just as slick and a bit glossier.

no streaking problems here. I will do about 2 or 3 sprays with a standard sprayer on each panel, wipe and its good. Like others have stated use more.

I don't know... My 425s are thin as water... and I've never had a streaking problem.

Same here, and I use very plush MFs :nixweiss

But as long as people find a method that works for them, *that's* the important thing.

I harldy ever have to flip with 425. Spray, whipe, move on. I use my little 2oz bottle I recently recieved as a sample. I've refilled that little bugger from my gallon more times than I can count now. I'm addicted to the stuff!

I agree, MY 425 is very thin, I use a very plush MF, I use tha 4oz sample bottle and spray once or twice per panel and wipe around, hardly ever flip the towel.
