A question for Blackfire Poly clay users

I have used a few other brands of clay bar clay so I'm familiar with what they look/feel like.I got some Blackfire Poly Clay 11 today and to mee it felt hard and not pliable like the rest .. it seems very hard to kneed or pull to get a new surface.

Is this normal for this brand? I did try it on a small area and it did pick up contaminants but as hard as it is its making me a little gun shy.

I have taken a couple pix and you can see the end of the new bars where I scores it and literally broke off a piece. Other bars I have had to litterally cut right through.

The other pix is the piece I used and its hard to see but even when I try to kneed or pull it it more or less splits and shows a rough seperation.

This was at room temp .. out where its colder its even worse.

Is this normal for this brand or a bad batch?

UGH! This stuff is the same as the Poorboys world junk circa Q2 2007! Its very hard for some reason, it doesnt make a nice sound on your paintwork. As its so hard its impossible to mould or shape in cold weather and even the warm weather its a pig.

Let that be your first and last purchase of that clay, there are so many GOOD clays out there should avoid the poorer examples.

Name them... so we will all know for next time. At one time here Blackfire products were the bandwagon to be jumping on.

Is this stuff safe to use? Outside of the inconvenience of it being hard to manipulate will it mar ?

Hmmm maybe I should bootleg a few Ricardos .. I only live 15 Min from the US.

Boy, that looks like the first clay I ever bought, down to the hard shiny skin! It was Meg's OTC clay in 2004, but I got it straight from them, the white stuff.

Jesstzn, I'm not sure if you understood Eliot...we can't get the Riccardo clay here in the US, due to patent issues. You don't have to bootleg it...only order it from the other side of CAN.

That looks like something my hurd of cats tracked and killed - or that crap WolfGang clay I bought a couple years ago.

I was gooing to boot leg it to you guys... :bigups

? whats so nice about the ricardo clays? TOL Purple clay works for me, soft easy to use and takes off raildust/etc something nice :)

Looks just like four star detailing clay I got a while ago. What I found helped a lot was soaking it in the plastic container with lots of QD and then later on putting it in a ziplock bag in hot water. Then I took it out and kept molding it till it became more pliable, but I ended up only using it on wheels.

Good news .. I sent pix and a diplomatic note off to the vendor .. carcaresmart.com and they are refunding my $$ for the clay. I have always found them great to deal with..

Since you're in Canada you have access to the good yellow clay that we can't get in the states. It's called Riccardo Clay and eShine sells it:

eShine Canada: Riccardo Clay (6.2oz)

Otherwise just try to find some Clay Magic Blue locally.

Eliot Ness .. I'm going to look into that Recardo Clay .. I have dealt with eshine before but for some reason now I can't find a link on thier site to ask them a question.

Up here we have to be very careful about shipping costs and I wanted to find out up front what it is.

Why not just buy ClayMagic - 10 bucks at Autozone, sure works better than other stuff that costs twice the price.

I'd love to but I live in CanaDUH and we don't have them up here ... and the closest one in Wash State is 120 miles away ..

hihi!

Yes i forgot to mention a good clay, personally i dont think you can go wrong with Meguiars Mild clay that comes in the twist off lid container, its a 200g package.

Also, Mothers yellow clay is so soft and mouldable, its my winter clay bar. It dont think it will marr as it doesnt get to hard and you can get a clean side easy. Its only avalible in a kit though.

The Sonus clay (green) comes in as a popular choice. Personally on anything less then a regularly clayed car it wont pick up enough contaminents in one or two passes to really be a time a saver, i suggest you bare that in mind before putting down your money. I have had used there grey "clay block" stuff as well, felt it was hard and bit dry and wont purchase again.

The blue clay from Clearkote 200g package is similar to Claymagic and Mothers and again, its a pretty mild mouldable clay that will do a good job at removing bonded gunk.

^^^ perfect .. we don't have a lot of options up here and that helps a lot :thx

I have been pleased with Pinnacle, Sonus and Adam's clays. I have not yet tried ClayMagic. Is it that much better than Pinnacle, Sonus and Adam's?

Use ONR diluted as my lube.

Opinions please.

For 10 bucks - can you really lose? Try it, I'll bet you'll be happy with it. One thing, the clay will outlast the little bottle of lube. I just mix up a little car wash in a bucket, a tad more car wash to water than usual.

I use ClayMagic from Autozone for $11. ClayMagic is cheap, easy to use, removes surface contanimants, and doesn't introduce swirls in my clearcoat. Yes, it comes with lube that toss out. I prefer to use diluted ONR as my lube.
