There's a new set of wheels in the Sanctuary. A '96 Porsche Carrera 993 C4S. The color is called Polar Silver, with marble grey interior.

I've done a lot of detailing on it so far. (sorry the pics don't really reflect it)

So far I've:

Washed with Dawn

Clayed with Zaino Z18, lubed with Zaino Z7 Car Wash

Compounded with Finesse It and Porter Cable w/ white foam pad

Compounded with Swirm Mark remover for Light cars

Zaino Z5/ZFX two coats (Z6 between each)

Zaino Z2/ZFX two coats (so far) (Z6 between each)

Used Gummi Pflege on all rubber seals

Used Eimann Fabrik Carpet and Upholstery Cleaner on Carpets and Mats

Removed/disassembled/detailed headlight assemblies

Removed/polished tailight assemblies with Finesse It

Removed and polished stainless steel exhaust tips on buffing wheel with red rouge

Removed/disassembled/detailed fuel filler assembly

Removed/disassembled/detailed third brake light assembly

Removed/disassembled/detailed directional light assembly

Removed/disassembled/detailed fog light assembly (OUCH! expensive mistake on one)

Painted hub assemblies

Detailed wheel wells and brakes

Detailed engine, trunk and interior

There's probably more. I've done quite a bit of little mechanical things just "bonding" with it, too. But in reality, it's a creampuff. Only 18K miles. Still smells new. Not even a wrinkle in the seat.

All wheel drive with Porsche "Big Red" brakes.

This is why they call it the "widebody"!

Nice car.

So what do you think? The 993 was the last real Porsche? I already know your answer because you have a 986. Just don't understand some people who bag on it. :nixweiss

sweet! two porsches and an audi! :bow

just out of curiosity though - where did you find that beast??

BTW Brad, you might want to check out this month's "Maximum PC" Magazine - I got mine in the mail saturday to find their "Dream Machine" issue - aesthetically the computer's case was color-matched and style-matched to the BMW 2002 Turbo. They also have an interesting write up on the car, quite cool indeed.

They are very different. The Boxster is turbine smooth and highly refined where the 993 is rougher and more old school. They both have their appeal!

:up

6 months of searching! I think I found a winner.

But the Boxster is going away. It was leased. No room for two Porsches...for now. I had a line of friends wanting it so I made arrangements with the leasing company to sell it to someone I know. It will remain close to home.

My wife likes the Boxster better. So maybe in a couple years I can add a Boxster S back into the mix.

Short of a 993 turbo, the 993 C4S has got to be (arguably, of course) one of the best production Porsches ever.

It's a bit rich for my blood (hehehe.. "a bit") but maybe I'll get a 968 and have the 993 "look" without the price.

brad, you are my hero. have you raced your next door neighbor yet, lol.... that is an absolutely amazing car, conratulations.

Excellent!!

What did you paint the hubs with? Did you use silver or a softer grey?

I used a Hi Heat silver-blue paint from Eastwoods Co. It includes a clearcoat so it's ultra shiny. Soft, not stark silver. Almost reminds you of the color of the car. It worked out great on the rear but I see tiny bubbles forming in spots on the front. Hmmmm? I may be calling Eastwoods about the "heat" part. :( I spent a day and a half sanding between coats of paint on these hubs! Now this. We'll see!

I'll post pics later. They look fantastic, though!

That thing is soooooooooooo BAD!!! I WANT!!! My bday is coming up, perhaps you could let me borrow it for the day....half a day...an hour......1 minute.....ANYTHING!!!

Damn near perfection. I was kind of hoping you would be getting an Alfa Romeo as your next car

Great looking car, even when its standing still, it still looks as if it is doing 80mph.

Wow, very nice! Beautiful color combination. Makes me miss my Porsche :(

Glad to know that you will take care of that care like you do your others. All Porsches need owners like you :up
