A new Bimmer (56K Warning)

Enjoy the new 7er in a unique color. The car look great.

I know what you mean about speeding with this car. I drove one and the car is so quiet and smooth, the dotted line looked solid before I started sense I was going faster than the posted limit. A car would love to drive on a long trip, because the car is quiet. comfortable and smooth over the road.

I noticed the controls that are on the side of the center armrest and I'm wondering what they control and I'm wondering if there a template elsewhere to remind you what these controls are? It seems that one might have trouble remembering which are which and they would not be visible once the driver is in the seat. I know that the BMW folks think EVERYTHING out completely and that the design is very ergonomic so this has me cery curious.

I drove a new 5 as a loaner and found the IDrive (I think that is what it is called) rather cumbersome as it controlled the sound system, trip meters, etc. When I spoke with the sales manager, he said the reasoning behind the system is that with all of the electronic gadgets in the car, if there were separate controls, gauges or lights for each system, the car's dash would look more like the cockpit of an airplane. He felt that with time, navigation through the system would be second nature. What's also odd is that the system warns you not to use it while actively driving, and even requires that you push down on the center control knob to acknowledge this. Because it controls the radio, I guess you're not supposed to chance stations while driving?

Beautiful Car!!!!! I was at the BMW Performance Center last week in SC, and they let us drive the 760, what a great machine. I didn't get to play with it too much, but I'm sure you will enjoy it for a good long time.

Also got lucky enough to drive the M3, 330, the new 645, and X5. It was a very tough day :)

real gorgeous, great job!!

Just read an article about IDrive in Road 'n Track, sounded like the RnT guys weren't exactly sold on it 'cause the car was training them to drive the way it (the car) wanted to be driven rather than it (the car) responding to their throttle & steering inputs.

Here are my thoughts.

The buttons on the seats, intuitive they each control a section of the seat and are laid out like the seat. I think you can adjust these things 30 different ways. To say the least, the seats are comfortable, especially like the ventilated seates :)

The iDrive: to b honest, the only people who do not like it are the writers in the mags. It was completely intuitive to me and I picked it up in about 1 hour of drivnig time. It actually is faster for me, provides a cleaner dash and gives you more flexibility.

I love this car. I am getting a light tint onthe windows and paint protection film in a week or so. Love it! Will post the tinted windows.

BTW ... up to 5 coats now :)

Matt: What did you drive when choosing this car?
LS430, S500 (or S430), A8?
Just curious.
What sold you on the Bimmer?
