A modded Rally Blue Subaru WRX STi

Evening all,

I did this detail yesterday but haven't had a second to post up the results. This detail came out great but started bad. I saw the car and thought it would only be minor dirt/grime on the lower panels but it really turned out to be a heavy amount of IFO, brake dust, grease, and grime. Between QEW, APC, Bug and Tar Removers, and Clay, I could only get 75% removed. The polishing took the remaining staining away. It wasn't fun to deal with and I have no idea how it got so bad in only a year.

Anyways, started with the interior. It was more sandy/dusty than anything. In the after shots, there is a glare on the rubber insert on the mat, it wasn't dirt/discoloration. Final processes:

-Vacuum
-303 Spot Remover and Simple Green/Water mix on the carpets/mats
-APC 10:1 to clean vinyl, rubber, plastic
-Adam's VRT to protect/dress
-NXT Glass Cleaner on glass and gauges

-Simple Green cut 6:1 to degrease door jams
-Adam's Detail Spray then OCW on door jams

I didn't have a water source so I had to improvise. Final processes:

-Simple Green and hot water (4:1) with Meguiar's Wheel/Spoke Brush
-Rinse with QEW
-Dress with Meguiar's Hyper Dressing 2.5:1
-All metal polished with Flitz
-All painted surfaces/clear plastic/under CF hood polished with VM

-Zaino Z2 by hand spit shined with OCW

-Eagle 1 Pro Wheel Cleaner on rims/tires/wells with all necessary Meguiar's brushes
-Rims polished with AIO, then topped with Zaino Z2 spit shined with OCW
-Tires wear Poorboy's Bold N Bright
-Wells/flaps wear Meguiar's Hyper Dressing cut 2.5:1

My favorite

Sorry for soo many images, but I liked this car so why not show it off. Total working time - 4hrs 45 mins

Any comments, questions, concerns, feel free...

Great job on the STi. The way that turned out almost made me doubt my decision on the A4 over that vehicle. Remember, I said almost. Awesome turn around!

Great Job as usual Sean. Do you reccomend the Hyper dressing for wheels and such as a dedicated dressing?

Greg

Thanks all.

Greg: I like it on engines and in the wells. It doesn't have any UV protection so I X it out for interiors and it runs a bit so no go on trim. On tires, it's hit or miss...Sometimes I like it, sometimes I don't. At the end of the day, it's very economical and not a bad investment.

well i was looking for somethign for the wheels and and engine. I might have to invest in some of that!

Greg

Great work as usual. I hear ya on the dirty/grimey areas. Basic wash doesn't work, then pre soak, etc. Finally APC and avoiding those areas work for me. ANy difference with Pro Wheel cleaner?

wow, great job. i love that car. i hear that z2 has been reformulated pretty recently and that the zfx is obsolte now. are you using the new z2? i really wanna get a chance to try that sometime.

Amazing! Detailing an engine with no water source. How many MF's do you blow through?

How does Adam's VRT compare to BnB or NL? Looks like a nice product.

Thanks everyone.

Bob: No clue, but they were large :).

mgm: The Simple Green/Hot Water Solution and the Meguiar's Wheel Brushes really kicked ass. I then dowsed the engine with a QEW mixture to rinse. Once dry, I sprayed the Hyper Dressing and let dry while I did the rest of the vehicle. I then wiped everything down and polished all the metal and paint. In the end, maybe 2 or 3 MFs.

VRT has a nice lotion-y consistency that spreads very well without streaking. I find it leaves a rich, deep sheen and holds up VERY well without streaking. It also has SPF65, which is the highest in the industry. It is my go to for interior work, but I haven't really played with NL at all. I will though when I go to the detail day :).
