TheSopranos16,

Great work, and beautiful car! :bigups

I've heard nothing but good stuff about the Menzerna polishes............ especially the FP.

Do you like the way the Menzerna polishes remove imperfections, or the gloss that they produce? (or both?). I certainly don't mind using a product that is a "little" more difficult to use, provide the results are worth it.

I definately like both. I find that the polishes are very good at removing swirl marks and micromaring. They take out the microscopic scratches in black (or any dark) paint, i'm taking about scratches that you can't even see. What you can see is that the paint is much clearer and darker after you polish it. I belive that menzerna uses a larger quantity of smaller abrasives as compared to some other polishes. I find that this helps reduce micromaring (as compared to a product with deminishing abrasives) since there is no risk of not working the product long enough to break down the abrasives. The results are definately worth it, the car will look great when you are finished.

Did you cover anything under the hood, when cleaning?

Eric

No, I was just careful about where I sprayed the hose. When I was done washing, I used a blower to get rid of most of the water, then I started the engine and let it run for about 10 minutes to dry it out.

WOW -- in the words of JJ Walker -- "That's Dy-no-mite!!"

I have a question on the wheels though, especially the brake caliper -- did you use an acid based cleaner on them, if so which one? I ask because of the way the caliper looks brown -- which I have seen happen before.

I actually used the Poorboys wheel cleaners that were in development. To my knowledge, they are both PH neutral. I'm going to do some more testing on them then I'll make a seperate post with my results...

Menzerna

Menzerna makes the finest polishes out there.

They are mostly used in the OEM market, as that what they were designed for. FP and FPII (Micro Polish) have a fantastic finish when used correctly.

They also make polishes for the newer harder clearcoats such as Ceramiclear and others.

I carry the entire line from Power Gloss to the glaze. FMJ is NOT manufatured by Menzerna, but licensed by them to a small firm that proved their quality control and effects of the product, so they granted the license. It's supposed to be sold in a kit per the license agreement, so if FMJ is sold alone, it does cost more.

Most mistakes people make with Menzerna is the way they polish with it and the amount. Small amounts and not long. It's really for rotary use, but yes a PC can work with it, but you need to re-wet the polish. That's why there is FPII or what it's called in Menzerna line (Micro Polish) as it has more oil in it so it can be worked a bit longer w/o drying out too quickly.

All final polish work I do on high-end cars I do with Menzerna. They have the best and finest quality in abrasives known world wide, have more background in OEM/Tier 1 use and make the best polishes for wood and metal including jewelry.

That Vette looks really nice! :bigups With Menzerna, you can be guaranteed a mirror shine on the finish! NICE WORK!!!!

Deanski

Wow! Holy Wetness Batman!!!

Everything came out great I'd say. :)

Deanski: We are gonna have to meet up so I can try some Menzerna polishes out before I buy :D

Thanks to everyone for the compliments on my work! I love the way the vette hood looks when its freshly waxed. Its shape just looks like a pool to me :cool

Totally agree I cant achieve the level of swirl free reflectiveness with anything else like Menzerna FP..

The vette looks flawless but the inside lip of the wheel and calipers look like they where missed.

I think the caliper is rusted :( I scrubbed it but thats how it came. I could have went to a stronger product and tried that out, but I think at some point I'd rather take the wheel off, scrub the hell out of the caliper and then paint it. But your right it does look crappy. I would have taken the car out for a quick spin to at least get the rotor clean but I didn't think of it until after dark...

The reason I asked about the acid based cleaner is that I thought they (the calipers) might be of the same aluminum alloy used on the valve covers which will turn brown as a reaction to acid. It also looked a little yellowish on the inside of the rims. Not nit-pickin the detail job though -- it looks f---in great!!

Come to think of it, i didn't use acid this time but I have in the past, perhaps thats the problem!!!

tell Dad to drive it more often ...or give you the keys:D ..it helps prevent rust build-up

:lol he actually lets me drive it whenever I want. Its a great car and all but its getting old. I like driving my Z much more, its just a better car. Also, the old man is on vacation until tonight so the car hasn't been driven much. I'm going to have to negotiate a fee to paint the calipers for him :D

looks awsome, in the first 2 pics it's hard to tell what color the car is. I love FMJ, it's great stuff!!

I've been meaning to try Menzerna. However, I just don't detail enough cars to use up everything else I have now.
