A little buffing time saver

Many of you may already be familiar with this but for those of you you who may not.....

If you take a PC with a soft polishing pad and place it on a quality Microfiber Towel you can easily polish off compound and wax and save those tired arm muscles. Don't use any pressure and turn the rag frequently. Constantly keep the rag moving.

(Note: I normally use two hands on the buffer, but I had to take the picture somehow!)

Gee, Brad, I thought that's why CMA makes microfiber bonnets :nixweiss ... Kewl idea, though.

I was just going to say the same thing. LOL The bonnets are a HUGE timesaver! I tried this method before going with the bonnets. I still do it the other way when all my bonnets are dirty.

Having only had expeience with bonnets on an old 10" RO, they seemed to be a real PITA to change.

Using this procedure, fresh wiping surface is about a second away any time you feel like it. That seems to me it would be an advantage.

For those of you that have tried it and gone back to the bonnets, what didn't you like about this method?

Thank you Brad - I love innovative "lateral thinking" ideas like this. :xyxthumbs

Actually the best part is how I don't have to whine about not having MF bonnets now... :D

ok I'm gonna put on my flame suit, but back when I was a noob, I tried this trick.... but with one catch: My PC was set to 6!! :scared

I learned my lesson.... :o ;)

I'm too busy laughing to post a reply to that one. BWAHAHHAAHHAHHAHAHAAHHAHAHAH!!!! :p j/k bro. You did say that you were prepared for flames. lol

Actually, the only thing I didn't like about it was that sometimes the towel would grab the car and then the polisher would just spin on the towel. Well, that and the odd chance that it gets caught on something or in something . The bonnets are actually just a little easier to use. But, like everything, there is always more than one way to get a result. :)

Gee, why didn't I think of this???? Great idea and what a time and effort saver! I just wish is was not so darn cold that I could try this out!

when you use a bonnet does it go over the foam pad or do you remove the foam pad and just put it on the velcro backing ?

CMA recommends putting their VIPER bonnet over a lambswool pad but I just use a Meguiar's foam pad and it works fine. Same thing with the Meguiar's UW Bonnets.

I prefer using the bonnets for wax/sealant application though. The bonnets tend to load up a little quicker than I like.
