A landscaper's Chevy Silverado-partial resto

Hey Guys,

This was a partial restoration detail for a friend who owns a landscaping business. He runs this company with the help of his brother and father in addition to working full time as a high school shop teacher, and he's all around a really great guy. He's looking to sell this truck sometime in the near future, so I wanted to help him out and at the same time test out some new polishes and buffer setups. My main focus was getting the paint to a presentable level given the seven hour time frame I had to do the truck.





-The hood, wheels and certain other areas need more work, AUTOPIA decides whether I continue with this project, so if you want to see me remove all that oxidation & polish those wheels, LET ME KNOW!







-I used an old 6mp camera and forgot to get the exact same angle/areas in before/afters, I'll definitely improve on this in the future



-Many areas of the truck were repainted (hence the peeling paint, oxidation etc).



Process:

-Wash

-Presoak w/OPC full strength

-Nanoskin fine w/ONR QD lube

-M101 w/MF cutting, Rupes 21

-GPS w/black LC finishing, Rupes21

-PC w/3" orange cutting and MF cutting pads, then black finishing for tight areas (M101 & GPS)

-Topped w/Meg's UQW

-3D thick on tires, trim (some trim was left undressed for safety reasons, and due to time constraints)

Looks great now. As far as taking it further, how will the truck be used? And can the owner maintain it at a higher level?

Thanks Scott! Honestly the owner is going to sell the truck soon, he was planning on repainting it but if I remove the oxidation and Opticoat the hood it might look decent enough to sell as is, or with just a respray on the driver's fender. Really I would just be buffing the wheels and getting the hood to an acceptable level to get him a decent overall appearance, it's a work truck so whatever RIDS are left in the paint are fine.



Edit: The whole truck may be repainted in the future, I just remembered it has a rust bubble or two on the driver's side of the bed. Like I said before, I was mainly doing this detail as a favor for a friend, and to test out the Rupes 21.

For sure a HUGE improvement. Rupes did a nice job cutting through it. Like Scott said, I wouldn't go crazy on it especially if he's selling it.

Thanks! M101 and the Rupes is a huge time saver, for sure. I still haven't compared M101 to M105 directly, but 101 seems to cut much faster and dust less, and it produces finer dust at that.
