A kleaner Klasse?

Ok so I was sitting here reading some forums and came across a line I often see here in these threads "its all in the prep work" and for some reason my brain started going. Whether i possibly saw this idea somewhere else or just though of it, it struck me as interesting.



could a paint cleaner like Meg's DC step #1 be used before klasse twins to yield better results. the method i was thinking is as follows.



wash

clay

wash again

Meg's DC #1

Klasse AIO

Klasse SG (mult coats)



maybe a LSP like Meg's #26 or P21S



would the AIO reverse the work of th DC1?
 
Using DC 1 would be pointless prior to AIO, as AIO cleans better and you would be using AIO on already clean paint. DC 1 isn't really good prep, just a paint cleaner. "It's all in the prep" refers to compounding and burnishing the paint to a mirror like gloss using machines and abrasives. None of the products you listed are abrasive, and I assume you won't be working with a machine. 95% of noob questions can be answered by doing a search.

DC #1 does actually contain a very, *very* fine abrasive. This was discussed extensively on the Meguiar's Online forum by Mike Phillips.



I'm not sure why you say the product isn't good prep, then mention that it is solely a paint cleaner. In my experience, good prep begins with a dedicated paint cleaner.

this idea was nothing more than a brainstorm. just tryin to find the best combo of products, ya know :waxing:

Edit: Jeff, i didnt see your reply until after i posted mine. thanks for your reply. yea i was thinin the same thing you were: a good clean surface is a good beginning to a great finish. figured somehting like DC #1 would be a good place to start.
 
Yeah, sorry if I came off a little harsh. What I meant was, I think that most members will agree that when people say "It's all in the prep" refers to removing swirls and attaining the highest gloss possible prior to applying LSP. This would not apply to you if your paint had no swirls or marring.

ive had my car over two yrs now. black Mazda3 that ive polished and waxed regularlly since i bought it. swirls and maring are minimal (thank goodness) so polishing out defects isnt a concrn of mine yet.

Well then in your case, I would recommend a good finishing polish (Menzerna FPII comes to mind), then apply the K twins. Menzerna really burnishes the paint to a mirror-smooth gloss, and the K twins will seal it in.
 
"It's all in the prep work" refers to basically every step you take before you seal the car. Whether is claying or glazing, it doesn't have to be just compounding or polishing.



As for the question at hand, using the DC1 would never hurt but I really doubt you would notice any benefit from it. It, IMHO, would just be a lot of work for little to no benefit.
 
petrong1186- Noting that I have an '02 Mazda, if I were gonna do another step before my AIO I'd use something with more bite than the DC#1. A mildly abrasive polish (like that FPII) with more cut than the DC#1 would probably make for a bigger improvement than you'd expect ;)
