A few quick questions about the PC 7336

I'm newly registered to these forums, but I've been browsing them for some time. This weekend I purchased a PC 7336 from Lowe's, and I'm now getting ready to outfit it.

I'm planning to order the Propel Sampler kit from Excel, and I was just curious if I should order the kit with the 5" backing plate, or the 6" backing plate. I see that the pads in both kits are 7", so I wasn't sure which plate size I should opt for. My only prior machine polishing experience is a 10-15 year old 10" Craftsman orbital buffer with terry-cloth bonnets. (Can I expect significantly better results from the PC?)

Primarily, I'm simply looking to repair and maintain the finish on my 2000' Sebring Convertible. (Inferno Red Pearl Tricoat - PEL)

It's got some minor (but visible at certain angles) cobwebbing/swirls that I'd like to polish out and prevent in the future.

Does anyone have any recommendations on product to use in conjunction with the Propel pad kit? I've always stuck primarily with Meguiar's products:

#9 Swirl Remover

#7 Show Car Glaze

#26 Hi-Tech Yellow wax

But, since this will be my first crack at this car, and my first experience with the PC... I'm certainly interested in getting the best stuff for the job.

Also, is the fact that my paint is a "3-stage" paint a consideration? As I understand it, it's laid down as a basecoat, pearlcoat, clearcoat... It seems to be in pretty decent condition for a 6 year old car. I certainly don't want to damage it.

Anyway, I guess I crammed more than a "few" questions in there after all. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

the original propel pads have a 5" depression in teh back of them. This depression allows you to quickly center the pad on the backing plate without all the guess work. A 6" pad will be more aggressive than a 5" pad. take your pick.

to remove 6 years of swirling, you're going to have to use a more aggressive product than #9 which is relatively light when compared to what's on the market. PB's SSR2 followed by SSR1 or Menzerna IP followed by FPII are nice combinations that have worked for many new detailers.

there are many options it boils down to preference....

since you have mainly meguairs product i would suggest #80,#83, #81 or 7 or 5, and the #21 sealant top with a pure carnuba wax....but like i said there are many choices and you will soon find out you try one and then another and so on begins the addiction...good luck

Thanks guys, I appreciate the tips...

I think I've settled on the 5" plate Propel pad kit... and just because I've never tried it, I've decided to go with the PB SR1 and SR2.

Once polished, what would you guys recommend topping it off/protecting it with? It's a daily driver, so I guess durability is first priority... but I sure do love a nice gloss.

Thanks again for the information and advice.

Thanks for the tips... I'm gonna try to duck out early today to check out some of the marine places here locally to see if I can find some Collinite... Does anyone else have any suggestions for where I might find it locally?

Also, I have to throw out some heavy-duty appreciation for Excel Detail...

www.exceldetail.com

I ended up going with the 7'' Propel Pad Sampler Kit w/5'' Backing Plate , the Poorboy's SSR1 & SSR2, some Natty's Blue (because I hadn't yet seen the Collinite suggestion), and several microfiber towels.

When I first ordered on Monday, Paypal wouldn't let me log in to my account to pay for it (the problem had nothing to do with Excel), when I tried their password recovery, it immediately bypassed any verification procedures and told me I'd have to fax some stuff and wait 7-10 days.

I had to leave town on business that afternoon, and didn't get back until very late Tuesday night, and so didn't get to address the issue until Wednesday. When I called and spoke with Patrick he let me cancel and reorder so that I could use my credit card. Then, I goofed and miskeyed on my exp. date.

Well, Patrick called and let me know that afternoon, I gave him the correct info and everything was fine.

However, because it was all squared away by late Wednesday afternoon, I had abandoned any hope of getting the shipment in time to take advantage of the phenomenal weather and assumed I'd just have to pray for it to hold out so I could attack my car next weekend.

Lo and behold, this morning I had a box sitting on my porch with all my stuff just ready to go.

I honestly can't say enough good things. I've never had a better online shopping experience.
