The routine is now about 4 weeks old

dawn wash

SMR w/ yellow pad

GEPC w/ white pad

3x Poorboy's EX

1X S100 wax

I took the pictures after just putting on a 2nd coat of S100.

I've washed 4 times since with P21s shampoo and have touched up with One Grand Show off.

Looks like I missed a couple spots by the rear fender.

Weegee,

That black ride looks S W E E T ! :bow :bow :bow

I recently tried Megiuar's Hand Polish, (#81) underneath the Poorboys EX and I did not like it as well as GEPC.

Again your black A4 looks awsome!

How are you applying EX, how long do you let it sit on the paint before removal, and how long between each layer? Also, how long do you wait until you apply the wax topper?

Cheers,

My Black 7 Series

Thanks guys. Believe me, up until about a year ago I was one those wash with the kitchen sponge, air dry and armor all types. After getting the Audi, I decided I needed to educate myself.

Sites like Audi World and of course this one really improved my knowledge.

Anyway, re: EX. I talked to their west coast rep because the main guy was recooperating from heart surgery. Anyway, he applies this stuff for a living and basically said that I don't necessarily need to wait the full 24 hours between coats, especially if the weather is on the warmer side or the car is outside.

So what I did was apply by hand. I used 3 different applicators, one for each coat. The sponge thingamajig they provide is horrible. It doesn't allow you to get an even, thin coat on. Even a MF applicator abosrbed too much product. I found the closed cell applicator to be the best.

Anyway, apply by hand, let cure for about 30-45 minutes. Buff off. I let sit about 20 hours in between coats because we were still having warm weather in LA. After the last coat, I probably waited at least the full 24 before I topped with S100.

I didn't find the EX to be all that easy to work with at first. Again, the applicators made my life a little more crazy. If it gets on too thick, it's a pain to buff off and leaves a lot of residiual dust. But once I got the hang of it and got a thin layer down, it really got better.

I wanted to do an endurance test with just the EX but I just received S100 which I hadn't tried yet so there was no way I was going to wait. I wax or QW my car pretty often, so the durability won't be an issue for me. In any case, EX needs 2 coats. I was actually a little disappointed after the first coat because it dulled my GEPC (love this stuff). But the 2nd coat brought out the shine again and also added that depth. I didn't notice that much difference with the 3rd, so next time I'll stick with 2.

Hey weegee, we've talked about this before. But I just experimented with 4 coats of EX, and again I got that same bump in shine that I got when I did the second coat. You should give 4 a try.

Looks awesome!

4 coats. Ugh! Jeez, that puts the car out of commission for most of the week. My family and friends already think I'm crazy as is. I basically live in the garage when it comes time to do the detail routine.

Tinted windows on the A4 are a must. I wish the car had painted lowers though. The '04 models are going to start having painted lowers. That car looks a lot cleaner. I suppose I could paint mine, but then that's more surface area to polish, glaze, wax and buff : )

I just waxed the wheels with Blitz and they look awesome. I guess that means more pictures on the way : )
