A/C Question??

Hey everyone..I just bought my car not to long ago and when i turn on my Air Conditioner the air smells like musk for a good couple a minutes and then goes away.. What could be the cause of this??? Thank You

It could be the cabin filter....replace that...but what I have done to get it clean smelling is I got a can of lysol Spring Scent...since it kills mildew and odor bacteria..I changed the nozzle on top..I used one from a spray can that had a nozzle tube insert..like you see on WD 40 or Carb cleaner...on the hood cowl is the Air intake....I put the blower on and then sprayed in the air intake slipping the tube nozzle into one of the cowl holes...sprayed a minute...and now it smells fresh every time I use the AC....no musty smell....

but a cabin filter change will help also....Puralator has one called fresh air..and its carbon loaded to absorb odors also...just need to locate the cabin filter....some cars are not easy to access it....

They sell products that claim to get rid of the issue. I believe TOL has something for it, along with 1Z?

Personally, I've never had the issue, but when I first started driving I was told that it's best to keep the HVAC controls to vent when the vehicle is parked so that fresh air can freely move through the system.

Yeah, I've used them and they work well if you do it right. Gotta get plenty of product in there (don't be stingy) so you get to all the mold/etc. that needs killed. Find the air intake for the A/C before you start, otherwise it's just a matter of following the directions on the can and using plenty of product.

I usually use the Wurth brand stuff; its odor isn't objectionable and it doesn't seem to leave any kind of film/etc. on the interior.

After a while the problem usually recurs- just do the same thing over again. Using the A/C more frequently (including in cold weather if it's a system that'll let you do that) seems to help.
