A Better Grout Sponge

Wow, on-line learnig is great, I would have never thought to use one of these? So it is safe for washing an entire vehicle? I am wondering why you would want to use this on your car? I can see the effectiveness on the runner boards and wells but unsure of safety.

use light pass motions (not frantic back & forth motions like you see your neighbors doing) , and rinse often and you'll be fine. you'll find it not only does it do a good job cleaning, but the GS rinses out cleaner than a mitt as well (cheaper too $2). only way to tell is to try it out for yourself and just like anything else, it's not for everyone (you can always deligate to wheels if you don't like it)...

Yeah, I picked up both the round and square one at Lowe's tonight. I will probably relegate them to runner boards and wells and the sqaure one to the body.

Is the touch of it too ruff?

When you use it the first time, it will break in and get softer.

So far the square sponge apparently has more friction and did not seem to hold suds well. The round sponge felt softer and held more water. The square sponge almost felt as though I was claying.

A few weeks ago I picked up a GREAT grout sponge from Home Depot. It is just like the normal Home Depot grout sponge (orange), but on one side it has that stiff, plastic stuff. I forget what it's called. I'll post pics sometime soon. It is great for cleaning out the wheel wells. I use the Lowe's GS for paint (the one that BigAl posts the pic of), I use the Home Depot GS for the very lower part of my truck, I use the soft side of the new one I mentioned for wheels, and the plasticky side for wheel wells. Sorry if this new sponge has been mentioned, I haven't been on for a few weeks...

i have to say i am quite pleased with the longevity of this GS :up . for it being so soft, light, maneuverable, and cheaply priced (a whole whopping $1.XX), one of the ones i am using finally had it's last day. can't beat it for the price... :2thumbs:

BTW... where are you detaildoc?

Think these are good for ONR? Or should I stick to the lambs wool or MF? ONR gallon should be here in a few days and worst case I can experiment but figured I'd ask...

many people on here use the GS for ONR. you'll have to try it out for yourself and determine if it's right for you...

I also use the GS with Z-7, and it suds up way better!

Oh btw... I have 3 lowes GS. 2 of them are unopened and I'm still using my first 1 since Feb of this year. So that's about 7 months. A little dirty from using ONR, but once I dump it in a bucket of Z-7 it will come out clean as if it was new :)

I have now used mitts and tried out a few different grout sponges. While grout sponges don't seem to mar the paint I must say a sponge with a bit of hair on it like MF or Chenille makes my washes feel safer and faster. A mitt is slowing me down and makes me feel I have less control. I loved mitts before but I think differently now. Just my humble opinion.

:up ........

I personally don't like the GS. It doesn't hold much water, and I hate re-dipping over and over. Much prefer 8 or 9 MF's.

Just sayin'........:usa

Many thanks in anticipation.......

I bought so many cause I have 2 cars. 05 WRX and an 06 Sonata. I labeled them with a sharpie for each car and I have one to wash the top sections of the car and the bottom sections.

I just tried them out on the WRX and I am simply amazed! I have been wasting money for years on wool mitts that cost almost 7 dollars and last about 2 months before they fall apart. The hood on my car was recently painted and has no scratches or swirls and after using the sponge it left no marks, scratches or swirls at all. I also use the 2 bucket method with Meguiars Gold Class wash.

I am amazed!
