'99 Cavalier - Awesome side-by-side pics

My father has a '99 Cavalier that he never washes, never waxes. It's a beater (as far as the paint goes). I wanted to see what I could do with it.



The process:



Meguiar's #34 (To clear the grit)

Clay Magic's Blue Clay

Orange LC pad w/ PB SSR 3 @ 1050 - 1400 RPM

White LC Pad w/ PB SSR 2.5 @ 1050 RPM

Black LC Pad w/ PB SSR 1 @ 700 - 1050 RPM

Poorboy's Natty's Blue Paste Wax

Looking good so far. You should go ahead and finish the wheel, tire and wheel well to give the overall effect of what a detailed car can look like.

Honestly. I would at least wash the car off. Because it doesn't look like you can see the swirls/scratches under the dirt - that were removed with the polishing on the right side.



Just my $.02 though.

You're so right; you can't see the swirls under the dirt in the picture. The picture doesn't do the dirt...justice? In real life, as you walk around the car, you can truly see how horrible the paint is - you can even see the horrible swirls under the paint!

Maybe a 1/3 finished, 1/3 swirled, 1/3 dirty to give the step by step process?

Yes. Pull up to a shopping mall parking lot - stake out your car, detail a fender, wheel, wheel well, and leave your calling card. Although, knowing most people here in America, you'd probably have some upset people showing up at your door for touching their car... :bat

I would totally agree about washing the car off first. Due to the fact that the majority of the population is oblivious to swirl marks etc., I think it would be much better to have both sides clean with one side showing all the defects and the other in it's polished and lsp'd state.



I'm willing to bet that any non-Autopian would think that the dirty side would look the same as the other if it were just washed and perhaps given a "good coat of wax". You need to make them understand that 99.9% of a spectacular finish comes from prep and the time and effort it takes to get there.



All that the picture in it's current state says is that you wash cars, and poorly at that judging by the looks of the wheel, tire and wheelwell. Of course, this is not what I really think, but if I was a potential customer who had no idea what you were trying to convey here... you get the point.

Well no. I mean doing that on a car in that bad of shape, only maybe doing half of the car, and then putting some banners advertising your detailing business on the windows. Then take it out and drive around town.
