98 Mustang GT - wash and wax

Last summer I picked up the PC and polished the paint on my Mustang. The stang has about 135K miles on it now, and I used to take it to the automatic car wash before reading articles/forums on this site.

Needless to say, the articles and forum discussions on Autopia have been tremendously helpful for me, so thanks to all you professionals that take the time to post your results/techniques on this website!

Since the full correction I have been using Meguiar's NXT 2.0 for protection. I really like the NXT 2.0, but I recently picked up some Autoglym HD from Wal-Mart and I am really impressed. It went on easy, was somewhat difficult to remove (seems to sweat a lot), but the end results were well worth it. I absolutely love the warm depth it gave the black paint.

Wash - Meguiar's GC

LSP - Autoglym HD

Wheels - NXT 2.0

Tires - Meguar's High Endurance Tire Shine

Exhaust - #0000 steel wool and Mothers metal polish

Wheel Wells - Armor-All

Glass - Meguiar's Glass Cleaner

that looks absolutely stunning! I love AG HD wax on black :)

Thanks! Last fall, Target had a close out sale on those boxed detail sets, (you know the ones with NXT 2.0, foam applicator, grout sponge, Meg's car wash, QID, Glass Cleaner, and tire foam) for only $5. Long story short, I bought 3 of those boxes and I have enough NXT 2.0 to last me many years. LOL.

Detailing cars is just a hobby for me, and I had a very hard time justifying buying the AG HD, especially when I have all this NXT stuff. I mean I sat in the wax aisle at Wal-Mart for a good 30 minutes, walked around some more, and back to the aisle again trying to decide whether or not to spend the money on it.

Anyways, the AG HD was totally worth the $35. I'm very impressed with it.

Your Mustang looks better than brand new. I would have never guessed it has 135,000 miles. Awesome work.

Thanks, appreciate the compliment. I wish the right rear reflector would not have fallen off of the bumper... dangit...

Car looks great! You did an amazing job, and HD truly looks great on black.

Do you find that AGHD dries white and stain trim, much like NXT2 does in both categories?

It definitely dries white, but I didn't get it on any trim so I'm not sure whether or not it stains. It was a real PITA to remove though.

I applied it to the entire vehicle with a wet applicator just like the instructions said. I then let it sit for 15-20 minutes and proceeded to wipe off with the included mf towel. Looked good in the garage, but when I pulled outside into the sun the paint was stained. I left it overnight and the next morning there was a very faint film on the car, the stains remained, and it almost looked like the wax had sweated (not sure of the terminology). Took lots of elbow grease in the garage to remove the film and the stains.

About 5 years ago I tried Meg's Gold Class wax on my car and had a very similar experience when trying to remove it, so I stopped using it. Is this a common problem with nuba's?

That Stang is looking awesome! I think you'd really like nxt 2.0 topped with Meguar's M26 yellow carnauba wax, it is a fantastic combo on black. The M26 comes of like butter as well. Great job :D

I'll have to give that a try. I do have some M26 as well...

Any of you ever let NXT 2.0 sit overnight? I usually apply it to the entire car before removing, but have heard that since it is a sealant allowing more time for curing will help. Thoughts?

There was likely some 2.0 still on the paint. I had washed and waxed it in late May using the 2.0, and when I washed and waxed again in June I washed with Meg's GC and topped with the AGHD. Would it have been better to immediately follow the 2.0 with AGHD?
