98 E320 Benz

I have made an appt. for a 98 E320. The car is black with many swirls and light scratches. For equipment as of now I only have a Cyclo DA. Will this do the job and what Meg. products should I use. (The reason for the Meg. products is that I can get them locally.) This is my first black car in this kind of shape. I'm considering to purchase a HS polisher and foam pads soon. I have told the owner that I'll do the best I can with what I have and redo the ext. for free when I buy the new polisher and have practiced up a bit. I have used one in the past. HELP ME PLEASE!!

I'd pick up some DACP and SFP... The cyclo DA should do a nice job with the swirls and light scratches...but anything more...You'll have to hit it next time around with your high-speed rotary. :)

That's what I'm thinking. For now with the Cyclo I only have white and green pads. Do you think I should order the yellow pads todo this job? I bought from www.rightlook.com and they carry them.

Personally, I'd use the yellow with DACP and SFP with the green (light polishing) pads. I used my friend's cyclo and it did a fine job with DACP. You might want to look for the pads locally. I've seen many detail stores carry 4" spot repair pads that work well with the cyclo.

Use the green pads first with DACP and if you need more umph then try the yellow pads but for now the green pads should be OK.

Use slow, almost creeping, movements with the Cyclo and you will notice great results. The process is slow but the pads and the DACP need to really work the finish. You will notice a slight hazing and the next step should remove those marks.

Use next the white pads with a finer polish, I personally use 3M's Perfect -It III Machine Glaze or Hi-Temps Light Cut with the white pads.

I did a trunk today on a black BMW that had lots of ugly swirls and I thought I would need my rotary for sure but I didn't feel like breaking it out so I reached for my CP, DACP and some green pads. It took me about 15 minutes to go over the trunk with the DACP but it removed all the swirls. I then went over it with white pads and 3M's Perfect-It which cleaned up the hazing, again it took me about 15 minutes, and I then went over it once more with Menzerna FP. Came out looking great and yes it took me longer than if I used my rotary BUT I wanted to see if the CP could handle the swirls and I also had no splatter to clean up.

Thank's for the advice so far. I'll have to check in town here and see if anyone carries 4" pads.

Anthony, is there a way that you could compile a list of different products/pads for different paint colors. I perfer to use Meg. products if that helps. I really like my CP so far but I'm not getting the results I sometimes expect. Maybe I'm moving across the surface too fast. I know that I'm not spending 15 min per area and maybe I should be. This is a really new tool to me and I'm still learning what it can do. Thank's alot!

Have you ever heard of Evercoat products? I stopped at the local supply store and they tried to sell it to me. They claimed it was just as good as 3M but at less than half the price. He said that alot of body shops asked for the company and now they carry it on their shelves. I just was wondering if it's any good.

So they have a very good reputation in the auto world? They guy told me up and down that they were bar none the best products around and to boot, a steller price. I checked out the website and they carry alot of products. Some that I have heard of and didn't realize they were one in the same.

There really is no one certain pad for differing paint colors but there are differing pad grades, such as coarse, medium and fine.

I have used my CP with DACP, #9 and #3 with great results. DACP with the green pads followed by the white pads and #3 and then diaper bonnets and #9. I normally don't use #9 as it has fillers in and I feel as if I am then cheating:-p

Even though you can move the CP real slow across the paint you also need to be cautious as it can get the paint rather hot if left on too long.

Not sure if thathelps you out any and if not just let me know and I'll try again. Take care,

Anthony

I'm going to practice tomorrow on a 91 Volvo that is a dark blue. The car has sat outside for the last two years all year long. Hopefully it all works out and I feel I've made a good investment in the CP. Thank's for your advice once more.

Anthony, one more thing. Do you have any before/after pics of what you've acomplished with the CP? I like to see them if you do.
I checked out your website..........was that all done with a CP?

Sure I can post up some pics, in fact I have a detail I am doing tomorrow and "IF" the weather permits, it is suppossed to rain:( , I will post up a few pics.

Most of the work on my website is a combo of the rotary and either the PC and/or the CP. I amhoping the good Lord blesses us with some sun tomorrow as I am doing a black Mercedes.

Take care,
Anthony

That would be great. I'd post pics of my work but I have no internet connection at home. The only chance I have to use the net is at work in the evenings.

Evercoat is the US distributor of automagic / bodymagic products - they do not make their own chemicals it is all made by autowax company
