98 Camaro Z28 427ci - final cleanup :( *pic heavy*

I know there is a partial promotional video on the Meguiar's site and a shorter video from David on this forum. However, what I am really looking for is a complete video at least a few minutes long showing someone using a PC with proper techniques and known products for instructional purposes.

I.E. a video of someone doing one panel completely with at least 1 product, no long cutouts. I think this would be very helpful as I have not seen any comprehensive "instructions" which are from a very experienced person.

Don't get me wrong, using a PC is not hard at all, I had excellent results on my car. However, I'd much rather know that I'm doing it with good technique. The video doesn't have to be all prettied up and promotional, just informational IMO.

If enough people show interest, I'm sure something will surface!

I'd love to see that! I'm putting off getting a PC because I have no idea what I'm doing. Brad's video helped a bit, but not much.

Grimmster, if your holding back your making a mistake buddy.

I didn't know diddly squat about the Porter Cable, I just bought one because everyone else had one. The only mistake I ever made is I was not using enough pressure on it, I was letting it glide over the surface, barely letting the pad skim the car, after many many layers of products I was starting to wonder why nothing was getting fixed :)

You can't harm your paint if you use your common sense, I'm sure you can do that. Make sure the pad is always clean and aside from that ........ go nuts. It's not a polisher it won't burn through the paint or anything.

It's weak to the point where you may need a medium cut polish and the strongest pad to remove defects in paint, if you move up to a polisher, your softest pad and weakest product can match the setup you just used on your Porter Cable. The polisher is what you need to worry about, and from what I'm hearing, unless your real slow "upstairs" then you are pretty darn safe with that machine as well.

Buy yourself a Porter Cable, you'll wish you did it sooner.

Bret - I actually visited Rightlook and talked to them a bit but $300 is too steep for me . . . looks like they could be pretty informative though, the perfect thing if I was on a more generous budget.

David have you made any more videos? HMM you do live in San Diego . . . ;)

Just kidding of course.

Justin

EDIT: The sample clip looks like it could be pretty informative but the way that guy swiped a towel in a circular motion across a hood told me to be cautious of them . . . it is high volume work to them, meticulous work for me. I will look into getting samples of the videos for review *winky face*

... no more videos yet. My whole life got turned upside down with the recent decision to sell my house (again) and downsize the lifestyle so I can afford to work for you guys full-time.

I expect to start the video project again in June. I have to get another book finished first so I can eat ;)

Wow!! You're doing all the for us!!

I've been looking for a while for a buyer for my 625hp Camaro for some time now. I've had it for 10 years and there's a ton of history with it. Hard to let it go, but its time. So with the arrival of the shipping company looming, I decided to give it one last cleanup and shoot some final pictures of it. Nothing special about the cleanup, but its more of a tribute to 10 years with this beast of a car and the long journey I had with it. Onto the pics...

Wasn't super dirty, but hadn't been washed in several weeks and had some good dirt buildup on it.

This is where proper washing and drying with the 2 Bucket Method and Grit Guards and high quality microfibers comes in handy. Good thorough wash and still no swirls or marring.

Had a great run with this car, now its off to its new owner.

What a car! I bet there were some really fun times driving around in that beast! Its amazing how nice a car can look with proper techniques.

She looks super clean. Nice job on the final clean up. She was lucky to have you own her. It's always hard to let them go.

Thank you!

Jeff,

She looks great. It sounds like you are loosing a good friend. Good luck with the next one!

Thanks Barry. Yeah it feels like losing a friend...we've been through everything together from Sr. year of HS (01') to now. Lotta history there.

Thanks! Proof the 2 bucket method and good mitt/towels are worth it!

Very Nice Car!!! Got to love the F-body!!!

Thanks cheetoh!

A shame you're selling it, but at least you gave it a good send off. Is that C5 the replacement?

Thanks! No, the C5 belongs to my dad (getting a cleanup today), but I'm thinking of a C6 Z06 next year.

I bet its sad to see it go! :(

What do you have done to the motor (besides a 427)? Is it a crate motor? Tell me MORE

yeah it is :(

I got the bare LS3 6.2L block brand new from Scoggin Dickey and started assembling parts from many different sources. Block received a slight bore, then a forged 4.1" crank which punched it out to 7.0L. One-off forged pistons with 12:1 CR were made by Wiseco and matched to my cam with some pretty big valve reliefs cut in. The cam was a massive 251/259 on a 111 lsa and had .661 of valve lift. The heads were just as big and have some crazy flow numbers. All assembled, balanced and blueprinted. Safe to rev to 7250 RPM on a 7.0L V8, gotta love that. ;)
