93 Rx7 - Need opinions

Hey guys. I'm going to be detailing my boss's Rx7 in the next couple of weeks. It looks to me like it's got some oxidation. The one headlight and the mirrors are in bad shape. The rest of the car is kind of nasty except for the front bumper, which was just recently painted. It sits out in the sun all day and I'm sure it has not been waxed in years. Anyhow, I wasn't sure if it has single stage paint or not, or what I should try using on it. I have a pc and the following products: DACP, #80, SSR2.5, 2, & 1. Would these do it, or should I get some AIO? Here are the only pics I have of it at the moment. I''m going to start with a good wash and clay. I also have Ex-P and UPP. Neither of which I've ever used.

its clearcoated from wha i can see. pretty dull looking. cant tell too much from swirls considering the lighting is horrible but id start with

wash
clay
ssr2.5 on a polishing pad. see wha happens from there...
then lead to the final polish
then give a nice layer of ex-p

might wanna polish those rims a bit.
 
:yeah , in addition I would go over everything once with a chemical cleaner such as Poorboy's pro polish or deep crystal paint cleaner before you start into defect correction. Doing this will give you a better idea of what condition the surface is in.
 
Thanks guys. I know the lighting was pretty bad. Really you can't see many swirls because the paint is so dull.

I think he just put the rims on a few weeks ago. What should I get to clean them with?

Those rims look like they are brushed aluminum and not like they have very many nooks and crannies. I would just use the same product that you use to wash the car. Fresh bucket of it though, you don't want to go grinding all of the dirt you just washed off of the car into the wheels.

Tell you boss he has a sick 3rd gen REX, but that bumper has got to go. and it needs to be lowered in the worst way, I used to work for Racing Beat in Anaheim Ca. and they only make parts for rotary cars. That car when lowered right will corner like it's on rails.
 
I agree with lastdetail.........that bumper is butt ugly. :badabum It needs to be lowered pretty badly too. Shame on him for letting such a nice car get so bad.
 
FWIW, a friend of mine had a red 93 like that and the paint didn't have a clear or if it did it was all gone; washed it waxed it and it was faded again shortly after that. GOOD LUCK.
 
Thank god others agree with me about the bumper. I don't like it either. I didn't even know he was doing it until I saw it done.

The car has a lot of money wrapped up in it, but it's all been done by a local shop and he doesn't even know what's all done. :) I know it's a single turbo conversion, lots of fuel mods, and a standalone. The thing is pretty quick,

I actually got to drive this car a couple times when I worked at Racing Beat, this car was certifiably insane. I would do a tremendously smokey burnout from a dead stop in third gear. it was running a triple rotor full race set-up at something like 17 pounds of boost. Topped out somewhere near 200mph. Thoroughly scary piece of hardware.
Last I heard the guys from Racing Beat and the guys from Blitz had a showdown between the RB Rex and the Blitz Skyline for bragging rights, they were doing it on the 15 freeway somewhere between here and Vegas. They got pinched by CHP both cars doing something like 175 miles an hour.
 
I may be wrong, but I want to say that some of the 3rd gen rx-7s had paint issues due to really thin paint or paint that chipped and came off easily (something like that) Those 90s rx-7 and miata finishes sure do show their oxidation. Good luck on the detail.
