I was lookin for a light SMR for my black paint, and at the detailing store, i saw that #9 and #80 (speed glaze) had the same abrasiveness level.... so wahts the difference between these 2?

Mike P. from Maguiar's replied to a question I asked about #80 that has disappeared from this board regarding #80. Mike stated, "#80 is like #9 ( I cannot remember exactly) on steriods." #80 does contain a light polymer protectant that is paintable that will last for about a month according to Mike P.

I just started using #80 but I like the results I get. More initial cutting power than #9 but it provides the same results in the end plus some protection.

80 is a 4 and #9 is a 3, 80 is certainly more aggressive IMO.

80 will cut faster, remove easier, and remove more swirls. Agan, IMO.

80 will also flash like a wax where #9 does not. This is an advantage for me because I live in a high humdity environment.

Since discovering 80 a few years ago, I have not purchased anymore #9.

FWIW, #80 is part of almost every detail that I do ( I am just a weekend warrior). I buy by the gallon and keep a good stock. It is a real time saver for me, turns what would be a three step into a two. 80/NXT, or 80/#16 heck #80 topped with anything on a car with light to moderate swirls looks very nice.

Learn it...use it...Live it

awesome! thanks for the quick reply... i guess i'll be refunding my #9 2.0 at the store, and pick up a bottle of #80....

i was disappointed when i did Klasse AIO x2, NXT x2, and found out that my swirls were a little worse than i thought... i didnt wanna go DACP quite yet... so hopefully #80 will do the trick.

#80 cuts faster initially and breaks down more quickly. Real time saver, IMO. I am really glad I got to try it out and see why more than a few were raving about it!
