first off i love this site ...im a newby and i drive a tractor trailer and ill have lots of questions,,,im already looking at cars that drive past and saying to my self i could clean up that paint.........................ok first question ..i have 2-- 9 inch sander /grinders 4,500 rpms 2 hp ...my question is can i make good detailing use of these ,,,,they have the standard 5/8 chuck......is that to fast for say my aluminum tanks on my kenworth with a wool bonet ...on my dimond plate with a wool bonet.....or is it just to fast...

4500 rpm would be overkill on a paintjob, but I have no idea about polishing aluminum or chrome diamondplate. I'd certainly recommend going with a Dual Action polisher or variable speed Rotary. Do a search for PC, which is the Porter Cable dual action (random orbital) polisher that is almost exclusively recommended on this board. There's tons of info on its proper use. For rotary usage, peruse this link: http://www.autopia.org/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=12377

Welcome to Autopia.

To buff you will need a Rotary or a Porter Cable variable orbital.

To do wetsanding jobs you´ll need a orbital grinder with 3000 or 4000 grit. Maybe you may use yours, but more aggressive than the orbital and always with the afore mentioned grits.

Hope this help
