85 Monte SS I just completed

I repainted this car. applied the graphics(stickers) and polished it. I think I can learn a bunch here which will improve my work substantially. I used the finesse it system after hitting the car with Trizact 1500 grit and then 3000 grit. The paint is DuPont 99K Chromabase and the clear is 7900S ChromaClear. Let the beating commence.

This took a day to show up since I first submitted it. Danged noobie status.

I used a wool bonnet on my Milwaukee buffer

Next was the yellow(/) finesse it pad with Tri Cut

Black Finesse it pad with Foam polishing pad glaze for dark cars.

Finally hand glazed with 3M hand glaze.
 
Ohh boy this is right up my alley. Thats one of the cars that I am contemplating on buying after I sell the Cobra. Nice job on the finish! Are you a member over on MonteCarloSS.com by chance?

No sir, I'm not, this was for a buddy of mine and I wouldn't have felt right joining a forum for a car that wasn't mine. I do body and paint, detailing, chassis and engine work to support my car habit and our household in addition to my full time job.

I might need to join there though, I can't find a piece for the center of the rear bumper on top between the two strips. I bought some aftermarket ones from Dixie Monte Carlo and they are not the same shape as the originals so the stock center piece doesn't fit and the piece they offer is identical to the stock piece.

I might be able to apply some of the stuff I learn on here when he brings the car back for final detailing this spring.
 
Dixie has a lot to chose from don't no about that part but he should have it in the right form. I got a bunch of stuff from him when I did my El Camino.:hifive:

Can you tell me a little bit about the Trizact system? I saw a few demo videos from 3M and I'm dying to try it out.

It is a system designed for use with a dual action sander. It uses a hook and loop fastening system for the pads and I'm not too certain how coarse abrasive you can get for it. I just used the 800 grit (pre paint), 1200,1500 and 3000 grit prior to polishing. I probably threw too many additional polishing step in but it is habit. I just got ahead of myself, I think it works allright but I feel I get better results with initially hand sanding up to 2500 grit then hitting it with 3000 grit on the Trizact. I used it damp, not wet. The next car I use this system on, I'll try to make certain and take bunches of pictures and include the description of what I used.
 
Great car and great job. Had a 1972 Monte Carlo. Great cars. Wish I had a 1970 MC SS.

What Milwaukee buffer do you use? TIA

You and me both:chuckle: It would be a nice addition to my MC collection. I have read the Milwaukee units are heavy true?

It is a very heavy unit. I'll get the model number tonight. I am extremely happy with it though. I have owned it since 1995 and only replaced the brushes once. It still works like a champ. AFter reading the product tests on the electric da sander/polishers I'm considering the Festool as my next detailing tool purchase.
