78 Cadillac Door...

Hey guys, so I've been wanting some practice with the rotary and M105. I was fortunate enough to come across an old door from a 78 Cadillac limo. I want to say the car has been resprayed, but it is single stage paint. It was in horrible condition when I got it, but I'll stop rambling and let the pictures show.

These first 6 pictures show the condition of the paint:

This is after a few passes with wool and M105 on the rotary:

Sorry I didn't post any pictures of the middle step. I hit it with M205 and a white pad. These last pictures are after I finished with 3M UF and a blue pad.

I think the results came out pretty good. I would have loved to wetsand a little bit, but I apparently didn't have any. Feel free to leave any comments or tips.

looks great man! I would like to find something like that but smaller so i can take a customer and show them this is what your paint could or should look like vs what will happen in the future due to the elements.

I agree. My neighbor owns a whole bunch of old cars as he's a collector and I gave him a call. That's what he had lol. He said he has two more for me when I'm ready lol.

joshs07redss- That turned out nice :xyxthumbs

A few good lessons from having used that particular door (I had a '78 Caddy and it had ss paint):

High quality single stage is *good* paint. GM sprayed those nice and thick and the paint can sure look nice again even after a lot of neglect (as you proved).

SS doesn't show holograms the same way basecoat/clearcoat does. Consider how things looked after your M105/wool step.

good point! Any holograms were definitely cleaned up though after the last two steps.
