'71 280SEL & '77 450SL Benz Corrections

Figured I would just do a two in one thread for these. I kind of lost half the pictures of the silver benz, so I did not think it was worth its own thread. lol

Anyways, two more for Buds Benz. Each got the same amount of work done...but boy was the black one a pita.

First the '71 280SEL...

Wanted to bring the gloss back too the paint as it was starting to show signs of oxidizing, which luckily the paint was still in decent shape so it corrected nicely. Though, wet sanding the roof, hood and trunk would not have hurt either. Had some pretty serious orange peel on the horizontal surfaces.

Condition of the paint prior to any work done...

After washing and claying the car, I worked on a test area too see what the outcome would take.

The paint before...

Now the test area...

After everything was done, it was too late to get shots last night so just some interior shots...

Before Buds came to pick the car up, got some outside shots when the sun finally popped out.

Another one from Buds. They have been getting them knocked out the last week.

When the car showed up, did not look that bad overall.

Once inside and washed, clayed and dried. Got a look at the true condition of the paint.

QuarterPaintBefore.jpg

So as always started at the hood to do my test area, as the sanding done when the vehicle was repainted terrible. Sanding scratches that were not buffed out were everywhere. So start there...

HoodPaintBefore-1.jpg

As always my test area half and half with both an LED light and the overhead light.

After everything was done...

HoodAfterLED.jpg

Then the quarter panel before and after...

Once the whole car was completed, it was raining outside, so I got some inside shots.

Then for the usual GA shower, soon as it stopped pouring, not 5 minutes later, the sky is clear and the sun is out.

You're so lucky to get to work on these old Merc's, the old S classes are my favourite. Great work! You wouldn't happen to have any interior shots from the SEL would you?

The pictures I meant that I accidently deleted...were the interior pictures and a few exterior. So for this one, I have no interiors.

What was the process on the black Benz and how was the paint?

Black Benz....paint was non factory and ****** paint. Not hard, but not extremely soft, but still more too the soft side when finishing down with a polish.

Process though was...

D300 - MF Cutting Pad - Griots DA

Some Areas - M205 - Uber Green - Griots DA

Whole Thing - PO85RD - Uber Green - Griots DA starting at speed 6 and working down to 4. * Long Working Time *

Small Areas - D300 - MF Finishing Pad - Griots

Small Areas - PO85RD - 4" Tangerine Spot Pad - Griots

MachNU- Great work on those, and I really appreciate you sharing them with us.

That sedan with the 4.5 is just to die for! Maybe not as exotic as some stuff, but a great car to actually live with.

Wow very nice work man...those Benz's look liquid now. I like your shop too...how long have you been working there?

If you don't mind my asking, when bidding these out do you do them by the hour or set a flat price for them?

I owned quite a few of these W108 four door tanks, and that one came out beautiful !!! The W107's paint correction was top shelf, although I hate the brown soft-top !!!

Very nice work !!!
