Got a call last weekend from a friend of a friend. So travelled to his house Monday, and following a cancelation, went there today to detail his 1994 Stretched Limo....

Here's the car sat waiting for me to wash it:

so on with the first stage, karcher rinse, and a good soaking through the karcher:

I washed two bucket method, APC on arches and alloys, and then spent the next 30 misn or so trying asd best I could to clean those alloys :wall:

When I got them as good as I could, I rinsed down, attached the sud soaker and clayed the whol car with DP clay. Dried with my huge massive WW towels, two hours gone! :doublesho

Once dired I moved the car round and into the garage, and took the following PDG readings. Note the low side panel readings, this was gonna cause pain later, and resulted in RDS's being left in.:o

Nopw dry it was time to capture the 'before' shots:

Yep, nicely swirled all over.....

With such a big job ahead I wasn't going to be mucking about, so out with the Metabo, and a polishing pad. Pionnacle Swirl Remover, and tested on the front wing first. Here's the half and half shot:

I continued with this process (but had to up to medium cut and Pinnacle advance swirl remover for bonnet and boot panles, and follow up with polishing pad and SR.

Next I used the PC, and a polishing pad to apply XMT Finishing glaze to the car, working well in to help clean and prep the surface.

With the paint sufaces prepped I was ready to start waxing:

Yes that is a Poorboys super plush its sat on, so it aint no sample sized jar!!! I appled the Zymol by hand, to the whole car, my hands are like a baby's butt now :D

here's the same wing shot again after wax:

and the bonnet:

and some others whilst inside:

I then applied Zymol tyre shine to the treads, megs #20 to the alloys, stripped the 3m tape, and cleaned the glass with Invisible Glass Cleaner.

and then out in the natural light:

Sorry for some of the angles of the shots inside, there were restrictions on what could be show in the reflections. ;)

Thanks for reading

Nice work on an unusual vehicle. Your friend must be quite well off not because of the cost of the car, but beacuse of the price of petro(gas for everyone else ...LoL) would make most of us go broke !

You are one of the few, if not the only one here, that measures the paint thickness prior to working on a car. What prompted you to begin this practice that is virtually unknown here in the colonies? This is important to me since Manchester is the home of webbed feet and umbrellas... cars don't stay clean very long. How do I know that? My Lady is from Coventry!

All of your work that I have seen has been brilliant.

^lol :) Yeah it not going to last long in that weather.

Those 15 hole mercedes wheels are one of the worst to clean. Mercedes brake dust really gets into those holes and bakes on. You did a good job.

Finerdetails - another stunning detail!

2 things though - can you post larger pictures by any chance? And could you e mail me a blank page. I tried making my own but I like yours a lot better.

Those wheels are the biggest PITA ever to clean. Nice job on a very unusual car. I'm seeing a lot more details using Zymol lately on this site. It's nice to see details involving as I call it "the other Z."

At the point I started to use a rotary, alongside the PC I had already bought the PDG first. I would be very very wary aboyut using any medium and above cutting polish without knowing how much paint a car has.

For example, I will be detailing a Subaru Impreza next month, no owner has no idea of its history. The bonnet only has 80 ums of paint on it! very low, whilst drivers wing, and whole of passengers side are carrying bewteen 220 and 250 following a re-spray, If you were to rotary the bonnet the paint would be compromised, could you imagine the cost to you as a detailer?

Unfortunately I dont make the pics any bigger as they take ages to upload to the host, and as I use five different UK forums I need to comply with their settings, sorry.

Do you want a copy of the blank PDG reading sheet?

I used to see quite a few of them around London, most of the time it appeared the passengers were rich families (multiple wives, loads of kids etc). I guess nowadays MPVs (minivan) are used more often.

The improvement in the finish is just terrific! Looks so clear and wet in the after pics. :up

By "race car" do you mean a day at the "horses" where ladies and gentlemen dress up with top hats and tailcoats ?

Amen...I've luckily got 5-holes on my 190E, but I've got 15-holes on the 560sl and they're hell to take care of! Not to mention that I've found both Benzes to produce an INSANE amount of dust, the previous owner of the 560sl didn't take very good care of it, so my wheels were charcoal and the actual faces of the wheels are discolored and streaky. (I may have to post pics up later).

Usually I just use two fingers in a washmitt and scrub each hole with my finger tips, but about halfway through each wheel my fingers tend to cramp....gar!

======

Anyways, you definitely deserve a pat on the back for the excellent job on that stretch Benz. ...she's certainly a beaut. :goodjob
