5 star shine, yeah, I actually bought the stuff...

Hi, as far as something needing to be buffed out etc. you can apply it with no problem to touch up any area. As far as not having the ionizing wash, you'll be fine. The main reason for the wash is initially to clean the old wax etc off the paint to provide a clean surface for the step 2 sealant. You'll be applying it to super clean paint so it won't be a problem.

I had my bumper repainted and didn't use the wash since the paint was residue free when I applied it. Everything looks great in comparison. As you know with the Zaino, you would have to match the same amount of layering for the same look. It isn't that way with 5 Star.

I hope I answered your ?'s. Let me know if I can help in any other way.

Ok .. so basically your saying the following statement on the web site is "bogus"?? Snake oil??

****Wash your car as usual, then repeat using our 5 STAR SHINE Polarizing Wash. This opens the paint's pores and puts a positive charge on the surface.****

How does the 5 Star negatively charge ions fuse to a non-charged surface if its not washed with the *special* wash when doing a mar touchup?

Make a person want to go Hmmmmmmmm?

^^^ooooo a bottle of positive ions^^^

they can probably get away with that because at some point the paint has a small charge, maybe letting the "ionizer" (i think soap) dry is this step? Soap is a polar molecule yes? (this is how it locks onto and surrounds dirt) so maybe when it dries it lines up or something. (though doing things like touching it and rinsing it with water would equilize any charge presant)

But even if it did, I don't feel that has much if anything at all to do with the 5SS bonding.

Chadster,

DING DING DING DING DING!

obsessive compulsive autopians want more than to apply it once. its apparent durability is a cool extra, but if it can look better than it already does, deeper with layering, than I want it!

However, I need to pay for 3 more years of college, car payments and insurance.

And personally am not willing to pay as much as is asked for this stuff. Even if I was out of school I don't know if I could bring myself to empty my wallet for it.

For the average joe, who you seem to be marketing for (never wax again, less work, washing cars is annoying work!) well, one coat is great for them. but I cannot see them being able to properly apply it because they are an average joe. (we all know how we shudder when we see non-autopians "wash" and "wax") and they would probably all be one time customers (hey its supposed to last years right?)

and I probably have a few more things to rant about but i have to go or I'll be late for work

Hi Jesstzn,

Good ?, as I'm not a chemist what I do know and have personally experienced with my repaint is that if you needed to use it to touch up and didn't have the ionizing wash you can. The paint being previously treated with the wash is the reason why you don't need to use it again.

Kiwi,

I completely understand that there are some such as yourself who like to layer etc. 5 Star isn't meant for people such as yourself. We are catering to those who want a way to keep their car finishes easy to maintain and protected long-term. As far as our durability claims, only time will convince people. Though the initial results from the nico site do indicate that there is merit to what is being claimed.

Just that someone's car can make it through a harsh winter unscathed and easy to clean-up is enough reason for a potential customer to purchase.

There may or may not be people like that on this site, but it is at least good for someone like yourself to say that it appears to be working but isn't for them because they are obsessive and want something that they can layer.

If people follow the application directions, they will get results they are expecting. Thanks for posting. I look forward to hearing from you.

Ok .. lost me .. How can a repaint be previously treated .. the treated paint is gone or covered ( sealed) over ..

Anyway .. nuff said ..

My fault, My painting answer was unrelated to the marring question. For some reason I misunderstood your ? thinking you were asking if you can re-paint over 5 Star treated paint. (the word touch-up is what sent me in the wrong direction)

Unlike some silicone based sealants, repainting is no problem.

My answer to the marring ? is the same as what I did state. The car finish being previously treated with the step 1 wash solution allows for the touch-up no problem.

Final notes,

all in all, I really like the stuff...yet not...

the finish seems to attract a lot of dust, so today I washed it (and spent extra time playing with the water hose, as I had never really thought about beading as a violent act)

I then put a coat of Liquid Glass on (wow this stuff looks great and talk about easy on easy off!)

So I guess the 5SS will be the last line of defence underneath whatever other wax I am using.

Anyways, don't expect to hear anything else from me about 5SS, I think I have said everything I can say. (unless anyone has questions)

Thanks for reading.

btw, chad has asked me to put in a good word for him, which I will because he has been very helpful in answering questions and because as a company rep he seems to be very involved with the consumers and their experiences. There are a lot of places that only go as far as the money exchange. Its good to see this sort of follow-up nowadays.

FYI, I just applied it to my dad's Nissan Titan this past weekend and I used about half of the bottle. A little goes a long way.

I used just a really thin coat and it came off simply no problem just as any polish or wax would.

Um, what is going on here, this thread used to be longer. (I know for sure because the last email I got about a reply to it was on may 6) And why is a PM between chadster and I concerning a refund gone from my inbox?

Update...

I got another kit free from chadster on the possiblilty that I got a bad batch or something.

I actually got it a while ago but the semester finally ended and today I had time to use it.

This is my mothers 2004 white toyota corolla. It was waxed once by myself the day she got it. That was about half a year ago.

Since then I have washed it once just out of sheer discust at how dirty she lets it get.

This is only the second time EVER this car has been washed and waxed.

*note in the first photo, thats about 7500miles of bugs on the front.*

Before,

Then the 5SS procedure.

This time I used a fine yellow foam applicator.

Only used about 1/3 of the bottle.

That little black mark on the bumper is a chip from an airborn plate of sheet metal, there were no bugs left :D

The final pic has less reflections than the middle pic because the lighting changed. The 5SS didn't seem to make it any more reflective, but it made the paint very slick and clean looking. (btw it is still very difficult to spread)

This was my late mothers day presant. Well see how this holds up.

I am not going to wash it ever, but I'll just report back every once and a while as to how it holds up (does it stay clean, slick, beading)

Enjoy.

It was a fun day for me.:xyxthumbs

I dont care how great it is, I would not pay $70 for a product that lasts 2 applications @ mabey 12 months protection... tops... when I can get a 8oz bottle of Zaino and a couple oz's of dawn wash for I dunno...$15...that will easily do 16 applications @ 6months protection/coat

I don't know how 2oz of this product could cost so much, mabey if it was priced resonably at say $10 tops..I might try it out.

Hey Kiwi, How's it going? nice mother's day present. I hope that your mom takes it through a car wash every so often since most people get their cars washed every month or so... Anyway, now the test begins..... Keep us updated.........

-Chad from 5 Star

update.

not much to report really.

car is fairly clean, a small amount of the grime that turns white cars grey is visible from a few feet behind the wheels and on the sides. I have not washed the car fully (and won't till I experience physical pain when looking at it) but as a quick test, qd and microfiber got bugs and grime off quickly and without any fuss.

well mom drove from MD to IA and back last week, and that means BUGS!

So after a week of looking at the I finally went to get rid of them, and wash the whole exterior too.

Started the exterior with just water and became disatisfied with that. (too much friction, and doesn't break up some stuff as quickly) Car was filthey grey which cleaned up easy except for some spots where wet leaves and other organic matter had dried on. the bugs took hours and were very stuck.

In the end water still beaded fine. The cleaning process wouldn't have lead me to believe anything was protecting the car.

I am compelled to stop updateing this thread now, only because I am not observing any extra ordinary type effects, and any future updates will likely be a repeat of this and my previous post in this thread.

Thanks for reading!
