got a PC for xmas and still need a backing plate...what are the pros/cons for each plate? ill be ordering a 5'' or 6" Propel Backing Plate and matching counterweight from exceldetail and i am using plain old 7" propel pads. i was going to order the 5" one right now since the 6" is in stock, but if i feel that i will like the 6" better, then i will wait for that one.

i bought 7" propel pads already and i just read this little directions paper that came with them from excel detail. it says "a 5" backing plate will self center itself in the recessed area, and allow for addtional safety on your polishing edge. if you opt for the 6" backing plate, you can create a polishing pocket. keep in mind, you will have minimal room for centering errors, and this could lead to pad failure due to cookie-cutting"

so basically, if i go with the 6" plate, which ive read people seem to like better because it offers more even pressure applied...i just have to make sure i center the pads when i mount them? im a PC rookie, and i want to minimize any chance of me screwing up my car.

Tommy, I have both a 6" and 5" backing plates. I prefer the 5" for the propel pads. the 6" just doesn't seem to hold the pad correctly. It will work, but the plate ends up being pretty close to the outer edge of the pad.
