For the most part, women buy cars that are affordable, practical and safe, and with a dash of design flair --as evidenced by such models as the Eclipse and Toyota Motor's RAV4 sport utility vehicle (SUV).



Men, on the other hand, appear to love luxurious, high-performance cars. The average horsepower (hp) of a car on our list of the five most popular vehicles with men is 367; with women, it's 172.

Do you agree or disagree? C'mon guys were are the trucks, maybe they omited trucks?
 
This can't be a true and accurate picture of male vs. female buying habits. Many of the vehicles listed in mens list are very low volume sellers. There must be something strange about the filters used to collect the data. The number of NSX’s sold in the US between January and June in the US can not be that high. Not to mention cars like the MB S55 AMG and Viper. There are too many vehicles that sell more in January alone than many of vehicles on the men’s list sell during the entire year. Notice the absence from both list of the best selling cars and trucks in the US. You can’t tell me that every F150, Camary, Accord, Civic, corolla, altima, minivan, 3 series BMW, Lexus, etc. sold during this time is titled in joint names and/or business entities.



Not to mention the price discrepancies between the two list. I understand the article is trying to say men pay more but come on you can’t tell me that men buy vehicles that are that much more expensive . The cheapest vehicle on the men’s list is the Yukon and it starts at $41k +, whereas the most expensive on the women’s list the Freelander (another low volume vehicle) maxes out at something like $32k) the rest of the vehicles list usually sell for less than $25k. While I can believe that in general men buy more expensive cars the price differences and the models list are just too different to believable. There are many more buyers both men and women shopping for cars under $30k, than there are looking for $40k+ cars.
 
It's probably more of a men and women's dream car list than actual ownership list. I guess I can see most of them. I wouldnt have guessed the Spyder as top women's car, but then again who knows. I like it, so I guess women could too.
 
The articles indicates these are actual vehicles that were titled in the US during January – May of 05. Not to mention the list is missing the pre-annual favorite dream cars like the exotic Lamborghinis, Ferraris and Porsches.
 
The article is pretty misleading because it is obviously not number of sales by gender.



I *think* that what it really shows is a comparison between the numbers bought by each gender, i.e. if 95% of purchases of a particular model vehicle are by men then it would appear high in the men's favourites list.
 
Considering barely any NSXs get sold in the US, I don't think that's all that accurate. I don't think any more than 100 are sold per year, but I'm not entirely sure.



What kind of man-car list is missing the Corvette? Or the 911? When the new Cobra/GT500 comes out that'll be way up there, too. As far as the Yukon...I'd imagine the Ford F150 is driven by a ton more men, but the perecentages favor the Yukon because of lower sales.



As far as the women's list...it should be chock full of Volkswagens. The base Eclipse and Spyder seem accurate, but the rest don't seem any more womanly than your average car. V6 Mustangs are insanely popular with women, but higher-model GTs, Cobras, Mach 1s and the like are far more biased towards men.

If you have a GMC on your dream list you got problems. LOL



I don't know what this list is. If it is dream cars you would think you woul see ferrari and Lambo at the top. It can't be ownership because how many NSX's do you see on the road? I see more Ferrari's than NSX's myself.
 
I thought this list was exactly what you guys thought...then I read the article and it made more sense. It's not about the respective gender's "dream" car or the volume of each vehicle sold, but it's the percentage of buyers of each vehicle that are each gender. For instance, the Acura NSX, although low volume has the highest percentage of male buyers versus female. The S55AMG has 98.2% male buyers, only 1.8 percent female.

You're absolutely right, I think with a thorough assessment, we'd find the 911 on the top of the list for female drivers. :D

At least one of yall read the article, lol.:xyxthumbs You have to click on the car to see their logic, but I agree it kinda looks like beer logic to me, but interesting never the less.
 
nsx is a pos...sure its cool, but no way is it among the top 5 dream cars..,. i saw a list similar to this last year.. wheres the ferrari and lamborghini..

Female drivers with good taste in vehicles that is :D Those females would also be at the top of my list because any women that can appreciate what the 911 is and does, deserves some attention.

Could you clarify the first seven words of your opinion? Is it a pos or cool? Have you owned one or driven one?

This isn't an article that goes on what dreamcars each gender wants. It is just going exclusively by percentages. Of course, alot of high performance vechicles have limited production, and usually guys go for these special models. I would bet the percentage of males are also high on M3s, M5s and such.



Just makes sense that they would have the higher percentage of males. Females look for different things, and performance is obivously not as high on their lists. Now, I'm not making a broad statement for all women, I know females who know and love cars more than men, just speaking in general.



High performance models have a tendency to be in limited production, and guys have the tendency to chase those particular models.

don't even listen to the guy. a handbuilt aluminum 90k nsx that can outpace most exotics just sucks huh? this from a guy with 2000 firebird as his screen name....



the nsx is one of the best cars of all time in my book, but i am certainly surprised it is on the list at all. i think nsx buyers are a special and limited breed with exceptional taste :)
