450hp 2004 VW R32

I sold my 2001 GTI about 2 years ago and have been missing it ever since.

Here is one of the last pictures of it:

Not bad for 131,000 miles.

Well I picked up this Deep Blue Pearl (DBP) R32 back in August. I bought it sight unseen (besides photos) from Santa Monica, Ca and had it shipped via enclosed trailer to the East Coast. The original owner had moved from Arizona to Colorado and sold it to the guy I bought it from. He only owned it about 3 months before he sold it to me since he ended up buying a new M3.

6 days after I received the car I went to the mall 10 minutes before it closed and parked on the outskirts of the lot only to come out and find a shopping cart on it's side near my car and this was the result:

DSC_0554.jpg

The mirror, fender and sideskirt all were damaged resulting in $1210 of repairs. Needless to say I was heart broken. I finally had my dream car and then this had to happen. I've always parked far away at stores and I've never had this happen to me.

Anyways, I just got the car back from the body shop and had them repair/repaint the front bumper since it was chipped up pretty good and had some stress cracks. The bumper also had some custom work done before I bought the car. The sidemarker lights were shaved and the notch for the VW emblem was removed. The notch was also removed from the hood. The sidemarker light holes were beginning to ripple and it was bugging me.

Over all the paint was in decent shape besides some light swirls, RIDS and a lot of overspray on the lower part of the rear bumper and exhaust tips when I got it back from the body shop. I didn't get very many during photos as I'm having a hard time capturing swirls with my D40 (forgive me).

First up the heart: A VF engineering Stage 3 supercharger system. This takes the stock 240hp/236ft-lbs to 450hp/370ft-lbs. I did a quick engine bay wipe down and polished the charger and intake pipe by hand using OMP. The painted parts were wiped down quick with FK425. I will give it a full detail in the spring.

Before OMP:

After OMP:

This was only spending a couple of minutes polishing since I was waiting for a customer to arrive.

The whole bay which contains many custom billet caps/tops:

Hood before:

Door before. I was really not getting any swirls to show up:

Hood after 105/PFW and 106FA/6.5" White LC CCS with an IPA wipedown:

LSP I used Pinnacle Souveran. Tires have Ardex New Concept. Exhaust tips polished with OMP after Mothers California Gold Clay.

Paint was clayed with a seperate piece of Mothers Gold Clay.

Afters (I'm still learning to use my camera so feel free to give me helpful photo advice)

The bumper, passenger fender/door/sideskirt were not touched since the paint is still fresh. The car will be parked for the winter then I will detail those parts in the spring and jewel the entire car.

Nice list of mods. That just looks fun.

She is a blast. :getdown The original owner did a great job with the car. There isn't really anything left for me to do besides enjoy her and keep her looking sharp. I do have a few things I plan on adding in due time.

Damn shopping carts and the lazy f'ing people who can't put them where they belong!!!

....if I ever see some one leave a cart out in the parking lot like that...I WILL go off on them! :furious:

Car looks great man! You already know how much a like that color too! ;)

Nice list of mods BTW!

Yea, I tend to park far and collect carts as I'm walking into the stores. The worse part is there were no carts when I got there or I would not have parked anywhere near there.

I do love the color, you definitely know how good it looks polished up.

VRSEX!!! WOW!! Sucks about the damage.

Thanks. I wish it never happened, but that's life.

damn man! I have always wanted one of those cars! 450hp in something like that has got to seriously be fun. Not to mention the color is awesome and the rims set the car off even more. Very nice work and very nice ride

Yea, I've been in love with them since the car magazines were first talking about them. I'm very happy I finally got one. The RGR's in black diamond look really good. Thansk for the kidn words.

Great Job on the R....I love VF equipment and everything. :hifive:

Thank you.

 what a sleeper and a beauty in one. I'd love to have one of these things and props to you for giving her the treatment she deserves!

Nice car...............how does 450HP in a light car hook up through front wheel drive, anyway?? Must be a tire burner.

See ya. :wavey

The R32 is an AWD car, and thats a + with this much power in a car like this!

I wonder how the trasmission holds up tho- i would feel scared that something like that would break

Really? Didn't know that......although VW has AWD available on Passat, etc..

Makes more sense with even 250HP and a light car........w/450HP, you definitely need it.

Can you chirp all four wheels at shift points??

See ya. :wavey

~3500 curb weight.....actually heavier than the Corvette. AWD & 450HP ought to go pretty good. But, like the other poster says......VW spec'd the drive train at 250HP. Wonder if the transaxle, etc. is actually sufficient for the 450HP you are putting out. I suspect if I nearly doubled the HP in the 'vette, something probably would need to be different.........Like, my base C5 @ 350HP isn't exactly the same as a new C6 ZR-1 driveline.

Just curious...........

See ya. :wavey

you guys are silly. r32s aren't light. But they look good, sound good, and are a blast to drive :)

i'm sure you can chirp all 4 tires if you have a good clutch and are good at shifting and what not. With that kind of power you could do some awd drifting LoL.

Must lay down some nice 1/4 times and good 60 ft times as well.

Got any video's of the car?

Thanks Scott. It's a ton of fun, I just don't really do much driving where I can really push it.

Thank you. I have surprised a few people with it for sure.

It's a Haldex based AWD system, so no worries. Plus it's a pig. The haldex controller has been upgraded which gives the car a more rear bias.

Actually the transmissions hold up well until you get into the 500+awhp range. Then you start needing some upgrades.

I have in second, but I don't push the car very much as I drive it a rather limited amount .

This is very true. I had my friends drive while I was sitting outside and I got a chubby listening to it. :xyxthumbs

It takes it, but the guys running turbo setups and quite a bit more power are having some issues. VW tends to over engineer many things, hence the portly weight.

I have not had the car to a track. I hope to hit some road course events this spring/summer and improve the driver :o

When I want to go fast I take out my bike. I think of this car as very quick.

I have only been to a drag strip with my old bike and that was only 1 time. I perfer road course. I started doing bike events 2 years ago and am hooked.

I will post up some videos when I take some.

That Dalhback Golf is redonkulous. It's actually running an older Audi 5 cylinder engine, like what's used in the Pikes Peak Audi.

Thanks for all the comments everyone. Now back to staring out the window at it. :lol

Damn that thing is bad a$$! How did a shopping cart cause so much damage though?! Someone must have hit your car multiple times or something... looked like the stuff on the door was just rubber... Sucks though. It was probably an angry employee mad that he would have to stay a little longer cuz you were showin up at closing time. LOL

Didn't realize a charger could increase a stock VR6's power so much... and be able to handle it...

Thanks.

As far the cart I'm not sure, it was a downhill slope to my car, but the camera didn't catch anything happening since they are on a 2 minute loop. Most of it was rubber, but the door was dented in and the interior support beam dented it out.

The stage 3 kit involves quite a few changes to handle the extra boost. They actually sold a stage IV that made 495 hp.
