4 Wheeler Maintenance

JaCkaL829

it was my first time...
Hey guys,

I wasn't sure where to post this thread, but this seemed to be the best fit. Please move if it's not appropriate.

My cousins own property up in the deep woods of PA that they go to maybe every 4-5 months for only a couple days. They own a 94 Suzuki Quadrunner 250 that they bought new maybe 10 years ago. For the past year it's been running progressively worse and worse to the point where we almost couldn't get it started with the pull starter, took about 15 minutes before it finally turned over last time we we're there. Only routine maintenance things they've done is oil and spark plug changes.

Now what one of my patients recommended was to drain the old gas, put fuel stabilizer in it and to get a carb cleaning kit. I'm wondering what are good fuel stabilizer for this kind of application? Will the normal ones at Autozone (Lucas or Seafoam) work? I'm also wondering if there are any other preventative maintenance things that should be done?

Any help from you guys would appreciate. Thanks! :)

run some seafoam through with the gas to help clean it out

then always add sta-bul with the gas(walmart sells it as do most places)

Wouldn't be easier to just add more seafoam to the gas since it's also a fuel stabilizer instead of buying another product?

Sta-bul is like $5 for more then you will use in a year

it works, and I don't mess with what I know works

I put it in everything that I have ever owned that runs on gas and

does not get used that often

I have only used seafoam as a cleaner so I can not tell you if it is any good for a

stabilizer

I think it'd be easier/more effective to pull the carb off and clean it w/ carb cleaner, that way you know everything is clean. As far as using seafoam in a quad, never done it. This is on more of a drag bike thoughl

Think I'll pick up some seafoam and stabul. I guess I'll throw the seafoam in the gas, then drive it for the weekend to help clean the carb, then I'll take it off and clean it out. Right before we leave I guess I'll add the stabul in and make sure to run it again.

Do you think I need any particular carb cleaner or the cans from Autozone should be fine?

IMO carb cleaner is carb cleaner

Autozone is fine

good luck

Pull the carb off and just clean it out real well. Might need to unscrew the jets out and clean them up so you can see threw them and the needle might need to be taken out and cleaned up. If it sits for a long time **** will build up and make it run like ***.
