4" LC CCS pads and PC

I finally took the plunge and ordered the above after working with regular sized pads for the past 4 years. All I can say is WOW what a difference. I used Menzerna IP on the orange pad on my black G35 on some moderate defects. Two applications and they were absolutely gone. With the old setup it would have taken 5 applications, and it would have been a real pain. The 4" pads are much easier to deal with since the PC doesn't bog down with them. I followed up with Final Polish on the white pad and I am very impressed. If you are considering making the change to the 4" pads, I say go for it.

I'll try to get some up tonight. Unfortunately, no before shots. I was really just amazed at how much quicker it went.

It is almost a night and day difference. You can actually apply some pressure and the pad keeps spinning! Even at speed 4. I kicked it up to speed 5 for the IP and back down to 4 for the FPII. My paint has been through 90k miles in the past 3.5 years, so there are the usual sandblasting type marks that couldn't be removed. But the marring was removed easily and safely. I think you will enjoy it.
 
Cassman, you might want to consider getting some 3.5" PFW's for the next time... They correct better and faster than four inch foam, but they do require a different backing plate.
 
this is encouraging. I have 3 of the orange 4" pads but haven't used them yet.



Do most people JUST use the 4" orange and then I assume it's ok to go back to 5.5" for finishing polish to save time?



Was gonna order the other color in 4" but is it really necessary (except for tight spots)?

That's a good plan. Use the white 5.5 inch pad for finishing.

I will probably get a few of those. I have a friend whose father just gave him a pretty neglected Yukon. That will be fun to experiment on. Can you point me to the backing plate?

I do disagree about the bigger pads for finishing... Remember that even when you are using a finishing polish, your DA has *alot* of work to do. Finishing polishes have to work every bit as hard as medium polishes and compounds do to do their work. Using a smaller four inch pad, even for finishing, will give you better results on the PC than bigger pads.

I tend to agree with this and when I only had one DA (PC) once I started with 4" pads I just finished everything that way. I never really thought the 4" pads took me that much longer, even when applying an LSP.

Hey Supe, so do you finish with 6" Edge wool or 4" foam? Hehe. Lately I've been finishing with the blue 6.5" LC foam blue pads and Ultrafina and seem to achieve great results.

Me too. I just used the 4" white. I like the way the PC handles better with the 4". I don't think it takes any more time. In fact, I think it may take less time since (to me) it seems like the polish broke down faster with the smaller pads.

On customer cars, I usually finish with the finishing wool. If I have additional time, I'll use Edge 2k red wave foam and po85rd or FPII.

According to LC's web site these pads don't exist. Under "spot buff pads" the 4" pads are all CCS pads, not flat. The smallest flat foam pad on LC's web site is 6". Am I looking in the right place or have these pads been discontinued from LC but still available from AG?
