4* application questions...help please.

I'm eager to try some new product on the polish-wax line.
I'm thinking about 4Star products and I am aiming along this line up right here..
But I don't know what the real difference is?

Four Star Ultimate Car Care
1.Four Star Ultimate Swirl Mark Remover 16 Ounce
(do I need to use a compound step before this SMR)
2.Four Star Ultimate Paint Protection 16 Ounce
(would this be fine after the 4* SMR or would I have to top coat here with a Wax.

OR

Pro Line with
1.Four Star 4-40 One Step Cleaner Wax With Teflon 16 Ounce
and
2.Four Star 4-54 Polymer Paint Sealant 32

These two groups of products caught my eye.
Can you recommend what to use with them.
What I can combine with these as a pre and post step?..

For example : Can I use the 3M PERFECT-IT III GLAZE after Four Star Ultimate Swirl Mark Remover and before putting on UPP?
Would that be a proper setup? Or am I way off?

I am basically confused becaus ethere are SOOOO many products out there.
I have a great setup right now and it gives me amazing results...
see:
1500grit 3M compound-yellow pad
Race Glaze Leveling Compound-orange pad
3M Polishing Glaze-blue polishing pad
Race Glaze Polish Sealant.-black polish pad

This is the result of these steps.
Am I doing one too many- Probably.
The 3M polish Glaze gave it a nice touch. But is the Race Glaze Polish Sealant I did afterward a good step????
Or should I just have left the 3M as is?

It's confusing because a lot of these products always say on the bottle "Leaves a deep crystal shine" and even the compounds write that..
But we all know we don't stop at the compound step do we??
We go on to two or three more phases after that..

Am I going to be careful as not to mix synthetic polishes with chemical based waxes etc..I read somewhere here about certain products not blending well with others and I just got to get that cleared up..
Are we talking about not blending synthetic with carnaubas; are we talking about not mixing oily glazes like 3M stuff with certain sealants waxes???
Man...where does it end?? ;)

I already placed an order with Wayne:
Trying out the SMR 4* with UPP.
It's the before and after where my questions lie..
thank guys..

I, too am impressed with Dwayne's 4* line of products. However, in your first list of products, I don't see ANY paint prep for the UPP. UPP is designed to work in concert with 4* Ultimate Paint Cleanser. The Paint cleanser cleans and prepares the paint for the UPP to bond.

I've been using the popular Detail City combo of Klasse All-In-One and UPP. Klasse AIO does the same thing....cleaning and preparing the paint surface for an acrylic sealant to bond.

Hey thank for answering this post..
I have done A LOT of reading since I posted this question...and as no one had answered (I guess it was too long to read ;) ) this post- I found the right combos and different choices of people...and bacially the whole setup needed to do the cars right..

I was just wondering more about the prep steps.
Can I use SSR 2.5 instead of AIO.
Or SSR2.5 - AIO - UPP - follwed by NATTY'S

I think you can do 2.5 to UPP - I didn't see any issues yesterday when I did this on my truck. As I understand it, all the Poorboys SSRs are clean in the sense that they leave nothing behind. So bonding should not be an issue.

Today, I did some scratch removal on my garage queen with 3m rubbing compound, SSR2.5 and/or SSR 1 depending on how bad the 3M hazed. Now, I love the look of SSR 1 - very wet but I wanted to see what Wolfgang Prewax Polish Enhancer looked like. Man I REALLY like Wolfgang PPE over SSR1. I've done this combo twice now and it is awesomely wet and deep. I hope the UPP lasts over it. It sure looks great over the PPE. :bigups

SSR2.5 is much more abrasive than AIO. The first question to ask is: Do you need the strength of SSR2.5? SSR1, 2, and 2.5 are all safe to use as a base for UPP. Whether or not to add a step in between is dependent upon various factors. If you use a cutting pad with the SSRs, the aggressive pad may contribute some micromarring which will require use of a polishing pad with a milder finishing polish. You may also want to use an intermediate step to alter the overall look of the finish. This is a very subjective topic. As you gain more experience with different products, you will start to get a feel for which types of products to use for each situation. Start with a few well respected products, then add more items down the road to tailor the results to your preferences.

I agree with awd330.
From the looks of your truck all you might need is AIO or 4* UPC and then 2-3 coats of UPP. The "rule of thumb" is to start out with the least abrasive product first and then if that doesn't work step up to something more abrasive.
I know it isn't recommended, but I have applied UPP over a glaze before and the look was great however, it didn't last as long as when applied over AIO or SSR 1.
