$3mil of cars Superior Detailed

I'm going to have to go ahead and disagree. Why spray down the car, risk having water pool in the engine bay and other areas, when I can safely spray and wipe away the dust? These cars sit. That's it. They aren't driven practically anywhere. I would say that's the harm, not driving them, not foregoing a wash over a QD wipe down. But to each his own. Good luck out there.

I fully agree. If it's just a case of light dust on an otherwise "clean" car, foam gun and 2 bucket is simply overkill (and smacks of web board-induced elitism).

A decent mist of a QD is plenty in that situation--even on an uberdollar exotic.

Cripes--the last Ferrari show I went to had me reeling at how badly some people care for the paint on their exotics. (I'm trying to tap into that market, but it's tough...). At least the OP was aware of the situation and was working within his comfort/safety zone.

Great collection of work there Shaun! Glad you hit a main vein to someone that can use your high end service. This isn't part of Roger P's collection is it?

David, I'm not sure who Roger P is, but if he has cars like this; send him my way!

I don't get it. Is there a problem with not washing the cars?

You can use ONR if you are worried about water pooling, which is kinda of absurd; it is part of detailing.

Basically, using QD provides little medium for the dirt to be suspended. I don't QD an entire car - way too much risk. And I clean Hondas and Chevys. You are cleaning $3M at one time, using QD?

ONR and MF isn't that expensive, and judging by your clientele, you can afford it.

DUST. Are you telling me I can't clean DUST with ONR mixed @ QD ratio?

This site irks me. I've been here for over 5 years and I've got people telling me the best way to do this and that. The fact is that NONE of you saw the cars before they were done, so in fact NONE of you can give an informed judgment on what the best route to take to clean them was. You clean your cars, and I'll clean mine. I've got cars coming in all day and the client list keeps growing. I must be doing something right no?

Two people have called me out on using QD instead of washing or using ONR. Where are your pictures of super cars you have detailed? (burn)

Not to mention this is a forum for PROFESSIONALS. So if you do not own your own business, please don't read verbatim what you saw some Autopian superstar write on here last week to act superior to somebody else.

/end rant/bring on the flames.

Shaun, I am what some would call a newbie to detailing and havent been on this site for very long, but for what its worth I agree with you completely. A lot of times I will look at post on here where someone will take a very clean car in very good condition and wash it three or more times and polish the daylights out of it when almost none of it is necessary. I seriously doubt i'll ever have the opportunity to detail cars of that caliber so more power to you. The cars look great.

Roger Penske.

Nice work man. That building looks really familiar. For some reason I think I was in it or one similar when I worked for an architect.

I guess it wasn't big Rog.

If any of you Michigan boys wanna score the detail job of a lifetime, try hooking up with Ken Lingenfelter. He's got one of the most prestigous car collections in the world and he's in Brighton. He offers tours of his garage a few times a year. Here's a link to some of his cars:

The Sultan of Michigan - Midwest SCC

You name it, he's probably got 2 of them in perfect collection (minus the swirls I'm sure).

I've been privileged enough to tour that garage with my one customer who's a collector as well. Great guy, at least that was my impression, as he was very enthusiastic as he took us around the warehouse (understatement).

Not sure why but I never knew Ken was a fellow michigander.... I thnk it would be cool as he** to take that tour.

This is not the Lingenfelter Corvette guy. I think it's a cousin. Ken owns some title company and a few other things I think.

EDIT: I guess he acquired the company.

Shaun... nice work on a great collection!

I wonder what some of these people do for a living...
