3m ultrafina & Flex DA?

I realize that 3M ultrafina is "rotary only" has anyone had success using with a Flex ? Is so can you go into detail as to how you obtained good results?

I'm looking for a knockout punch after megs 205/105 combo (unless, the results will be so tiny it's not worth it.)

-By the way, what is the difference between: "3M Perfect-It Ultrafine Machine Polish" and "3M PERFECT-IT 3000 ULTRAFINA SE 3M#6069"

are these identical and just different websites naming it slightly different?

thanks!

I plan to try it out with the Flex this week after M105/M205 to see if there is an improvement. I will likely try it with the rotary, Flex 3401, and the PC.

I will be using the UK 3M Ultrafina and UK 3M blue foam pads.

I love Ultrafina, but I've only used it by rotary. Looking forward to hearing from guys that have used it with a DA, too.

I'm not sure about the difference between the two product names, but the stuff that I use is part number: 6068. I get it from here

I can't wait to see the comparrison between: PC + Ultrafina, Flex + Ultrafina and rotory + ultrafina.

Yeah, it does look different and has a different name, but from what I've heard, as long as it's part number is 06068, it's the right stuff. I got that info from a trusted source.

Ultrafina Swirl Eliminator and Ultrafine Machine Polish are the same product. They changed the name of this and other products a short while back. I have a chart around here somewhere, if I can find I will scan it and post it so it's clear to see what changes have taken place.

Man, that would be great! It's like 3M is pulling a Menzerna on us... making all the names/numbers confusing and whatnot.

I use UF by Flex and it works great. Probably not as popular with DA guys, since we don't have to worry about holograms anyway. It works well to remove the fine hazing that SIP leaves, and its all I need to clean up light swirling on my Toyota's soft paint. I usually use it on a black 7.5" CCS pad. Leaves a really nice finish and is fast.

We use it on the flex and the PC quite a bit.

On the flex we use a grey LC pad--something stiff, yet soft(FWIW, this is an absolute must when finishing with the DA IMO),

On the PC we use a white LC LP pad.

Finishes *very* well on all but the most finicky of paints.

I used UF on the Flex 3401 last night after going over my car with M205. To my surprise it did add a little to the finish. Had I not done a side by side I would have thought the M205 was LSP ready...and on most jobs it may very well be.

The UF worked well on the Flex but it really seems more at home with the rotary IMO. I was short on time last night and decided the rotary was better on my car. I play around with it some more this week. ;)

What speed did you use with the flex and the ultrafina ? And do you still think it works well with the flex DA ? Thanks before

I use UF with a PC and it works very well. It REMOVES the marring I use it for and they stay gone.

Some on here claim it fills like no other and that the fillers will not be removed even with multiple applications of paint thinner. That is of course absolutely absurd and should be ignored like the BS that it clearly is.

I think I used speed 5 on the flex but it was over a year ago when I tried it. I only use it on the rotary now as I feel it works much better that way and is actually one of the easiest finishing polishes I've ever used and is my go to jeweling polish 90% of the time. I'll work it at 900-1800-900rpm and once it's broken down you will get oily splatter on the paint (which wipes off very easily).

Are you sure that the great results you are getting are not from fillers? According to a self appointed detailing god and many of his monkey crew UF just fills. It is in fact an Ultra Filler and the fillers can't be removed by paint thinner. So the great results you are getting aren't real. The only way to find out for sure since paint thinner can't remove the ultra fillers in UF is to do a battery acid wipe down and see if the fillers are removed that way :soscared: I wonder if the fillers can hold up to that?

I only use UF for jeweling once the finish is already swirl free so if it is filling I'm not really concerned about it. ;)

You mean you use like it was meant to be used? Wow what an excellent idea. Maybe some others should do the same and then they would realize that it actually removes the very minor marring and haze. It was never intended for swirl removal.
