Is that the headlight polishing kit? I did not realize they were that much money. I guess I am getting mine at a steal.:laugh:



4 cars and the kit is payed for. I charge $100 to fix lights and they are all happy and never complain about the price. Takes 1 hour for bad faded ones.

I found it for 325.00 on line. I think I will ask my local distibuter. They will probably be cheaper.

Hey thanks for those links. Those threads were pretty detailed. I never new you could go over corners so easily with a DA like that. I ended up going to the 3m dealer around here, and bought the 3m headlight kit. The kit was a lot nicer in person, and the right angle grinder and polisher were smaller than I realized, seemed like they were built pretty well. Anyway they had the Trizact system there, and the Merka. I think I am going to do the Mirka system. They said they like it a lot and have had good results.

I got it for just under 300.00. Original its about 325.00, but I got a discount, plus I didnt have to pay shipping so I was happy with that price. I really wanted it and when I whent there I was only getting some 3M extra cut. I noticed they had the kit in there display so I bought it on an impulse buy. LoL!! I honestly think its worth it though with all the stuff you get with it. Anyway I will be trying it this weekend so I hope it goes well.
 
Mirka just released a 3/32 throw air sander in the US, it is the MR-625. I should have one in hand in a week or two as they just came into the country last week. Retail for the MR-625 is $237, you should be able to get it in the $160s.



They are also coming out with new discs. The part # on those will be 9S-241-1500/2500. They are calling these the "soft" line, but they won't have as much cushion as the standard 8A-241-2000/4000. The price on the newer 1500/2500 dics will be approx $40 for a 10 pack.
 
At the risk of sounding all :nono I hope you guys are using an ETG if sanding with anything harsher than 4K.

I am looking for both a DA palm air sander to use on my paint AND another hand type tool to polish out the sanding marks that I make in headlights after sanding them. Is there a website I could get both of these ? Im assuming that the 3m kit has one DA gun then one gun that polishes. If I am wet sanding the headlights by hand would it be easier to just buy the polishing gun? Thanks..

Looks like I will be selling the griots air polisher as it has a 3/8 throw. Which is fine for correcting paint like a PC, but not good for sanding.

Eh..that's about what I expected. I wouldn't like an air-powered polisher anyhow, never did enjoy using air-powered DAs when I was in the bodyshop.



Can You Hear Me- IIRC the 3M system assumes you'll be using a rotary for the compounding/polishing, but not the wetsanding.

Rydawg mentioned that you need an air sander with a pretty short throw... Is the air part important? Does anyone make an electric random orbit with the required short throw?

Yes, I would rate the short throw as very important. I played with my new airvantage 6" sander a few weeks ago with some 4k. I was still getting a few light pigtails even with a 3/32 throw sander. I have not had a chance to use the air sander since.
 
Interesting... I was kind of hoping someone made an electric version, but I suppose there is always the old fashioned method until such time as I can find the big air compressor.
