3M SMR

I went out and got some 3M SMR (part number 051131-39009), but I have a question, as PepBoys did not have anything to compare it with.

The label is marked "for DARK colored cars." I don't recall seeing the difference noted in any posts that I have read recently and want to see if there is a 3M SMR for light colored cars that would be more appropriate for my white Jetta.

Well, you can nix the question, as I just check on CMA and there is a mixture for Light colored cars, part #39109. I guess I'll have to drive around a little and search some out, as the 2 auto parts stores I went to did not have it...not even a space on the shelf.

Yes.. there is in fact a 3M SMR for LIGHT colored cars, however, being that you already purchased the one for DARK cars, it does NOT MATTER.. i repeat, you can use the one for DARK cars on your white Jetta. The only this is, and this should be done even if you bought the one for LIGHT cars, is to wash the paint after having used the SMR. SMR deposits some fillers into small scratches. So after having used the DARK one, you might see some dark fillings in the paint. Just wash it, and it will be as if you used the one for LIGHT cars..

Hope this is an accurate explanation..

Yes, it makes sense, as I'm sure that the fillers are just tinted darker in this particular blend. Thanks for the explanation. Save me several trips to locate a bottle of the light stuff.

I assume the opposite is true? I have s dark car and can only find SMr for light colored. Let me know if it would work the same as above.

Very tempting. That was about a week ago, I'll have to double check this weekend when I actually pick the stuff up, maybe by then they will have the dark formula in...if not I'll get the light and PM ya if your up for a trade!!
