3M product

I just got a bottle of 3M Perfect-It III. Item # 05933. Does anyone have any experience with this product via a PC. I have been using Poorboys SSR 2.5 but am about out. I thought I would try the 3M since I can get it locally. What Poorboy SSR does it compare to? I just don't know what speed to work it at or how long. I played around with it today. I swirled up a practice fender and tried the 3M at a speed of 4 and 6 on white, orange and yellow pads. I found that if I didn't work it till it almost disappeared, I couldn't get off the residue unless I used a qd. Thanks for any help.

I really like it but it does make a dust storm if you kick it up to 6. I use it w/an orange pad at 4-5 on my PC and it does a great job. The only problem I've had w/it was when I used it on a black Nissan Altima...left some hazing. I only have SSR2.5 from the poorboy's line but 3M does a better job at correcting what 2.5 can't.

Yeah I did notice some dusting. Do you work it till it disappears? Like I said if I stopped with much product still on the fender, I had to use qd to remove it. Thanks for your help.

Work it till it disappears - that's one of the benefits of 3M, apply a 2 inch strip of polish to a fender, it will do half the fender & you shouldn't have to wipe any off.

I didn't know my polisher could talk. :lol

I'm a *big* fan of the 3M PI-III RC 05933. I stockpiled it after it got discontinued so I'll always have some on hand :D Works great by hand/PC/Cyclo/rotary..but yeah, it does dust.

Hmmm...I don't work it until it nearly disappears, I wipe it off while it's not quite dry  Wonder if you're using more/less product than I do :nixweiss

I do use a little spritz of Meg's #34 sometimes, avoiding any micromarring from the product residue is worth the added effort.

I've used this *by hand* to remove 2K unigrit scratches from factory Audi clear. Took a while though.

Via PC, I like it best with 4" pads. You could try 3.5" PFW for serious correction (the 05933 is really a bit too mild for this IMO), but 4" orange for sorta-serious work (good combo, I use speed 4.5-5) seems more like what the product is best for. 4" Cyclo brand green pads work well for medium correction on not-too-hard clear (same speeds).

Note that the 4" green/05933 combo is how I killed some clearcoat on the MPV, so don't get *too* aggressive thinking that the PC can't hurt paint ;)

While the 05933 finishes out nicer than its PI-3000 replacement, it does, of course, need a follow up with something milder (like the also discontinued PI-III MG 05937). Although it's a pretty mild product as "rubbing compounds" go, it's not supposed to be a finishing polish and you can get a *greatly* improved finish by doing more work with milder products.
