3M PIII MG vs Meguiar's #3 MG

Not too sure on the comparison between those two, but if you want to remove swirls, you might need to go a little more aggressive. 3M FI-II Machine Polish or Meg's #9 might suit you a litte better if you plan to get rid of the swirls. DACP might be a good candidate too.

No, 3M's PI-III Machine Glaze is quite a bit more aggressive than #3 and even #9. It is designed to remove swirl marks without adding fillers.

The #3 Machine Glaze is a glaze with very little cleaning ability. It is similar to Meguiar's #7 but is designed to be used by machine instead.

I have found that PI-III is between Meg's DACP and #9 in terms of aggressiveness. Meg's #3 is about a third (1/3) as aggressive of #9 (#9 is 3 times more aggressive).

I hope this helps!

2hotford and IndigoGTI have it right. The PI-III MG will remove swirls throuogh MILD abrasion and it does NOT leave fillers behind. The #3, IN MY EXPERIENCE (yep, that's a disclaimer) is VIRTUALLY non-abrasive (1/3 as abrasive as #9-good example- is MILD) and won't remove enough paint/clear to actually REMOVE swirls. It sorta hides them with oils/fillers.

Can't trust those manufacturers to name their products the same way. Meg's "machine glaze" is nothing like 3M's "machine glaze". Meg's is MORE like a "glaze", the 3M product under discussion is really a polish (as *I* interpret the terms).

Thanks for the info.

 I get quite irritated at SMR (hides not REMOVES) and what you just said. I just wasted 10 bucks on the MEG MG.

Every time I do the alcohol test after the SMR I see no swirls but little curves or bananas. Any clue what they are?

Heh heh, isn't it fun  trying to convey what you mean about minor paint problems?! I'd GUESS that they are just another form of swirls/marring. Try going over them (with a non-filling polish) using linear motions (in a way that'll be noticeably different from the shape they are now) and see what happens.

*IMO* the PI-III is more aggressive. But it will almost certainly leave a ready-to-wax finish if you work it long enough.

I'm guessing 3M FI-II Machine Polish is less aggressive than DACP?

I have found FI-II Machine Polish to be essentially the same as 3M SMR, so I would say it is less aggressive than DACP.
