3M PF III MG, PI II Fine Cut Application?

I just used 3M PI III MG (AIO, EX) on a friend's car that he was going to sell. Thanks to this site, the car came out nicely, for a novice like me. And we sold the car to the first person who looked at it. But I have a question.

How much PI III MG do you use to polish one 2' x 2' panel with a PC?

Not knowing exactly how much to use, I followed the Menzerna instructions on CMA and put down 2 8" lines. I think that may have been too much material. Most of the time, I was unable to completely buff out the MG. MG remained, never turned powdery or disappeared even after extensive polishing at speed 5 with the PC. (I have watched David's video several times.)

I will need to use PI II Fine Cut Compound + MG in certain places (hood, etc.) on the next car (mine). How much PI II Fine Cut Compound do you use for each section (assuming it's 2' x 2')? Is the compound also worked until it is essentially buffed out/dry?

Thanks for your comments and for all the information you share!

Well, you obviously discovered you used too much product. I usually start with a thin "X" applied to the pad and work from there. Some people like to apply a ring of polish to the pad and go to work. Whatever works for you is fine.

You don't want to dry polish a panel but try to use as little product as you can. There is no simple formula for this - its an experience thing you have to learn on your own.

And, yes, work the product fully until there's almost nothing to wipe off. All polishes work this way.
